Latest after another North Texas pastor resignation

During a sermon Sunday, Cross Timbers Church in Argyle, Texas, announced the resignation of lead pastor Josiah Anthony.

Ok DFW, I'm wondering what's going on here. I recently retired from the military and now live in DFW. I've lived all over the world and been to many churches. My impression of churches in DFW is that what church you attend is a status symbol and part of a brand. It's like: "I live in DFW, drive a BMW, have a 4500 sq ft house in Southlake, and go to "insert popular, trendy DFW church here." A lot of churches in this area are focused more on running like a business and not focusing on Jesus. I think there are many more of these scenarios to come. I love it here in DFW but I see alot of fair-weather "Sunday" Christians. The wheat is about to be separated from the chaff.

I stopped going to church years ago because of this. I attended Capital Christian center in Ranch Cordova CA because of one scandal after the other. The church was headed by Rick Cole and his wife Cathy Cole..

It bothers me that the pastor did not face the congregation himself. Dallas is so huge, to be honest it could have also happebed in LA or other large areas. I dont think its particularly Texas to have so many

I believe God is taking churches through a purification process he has big plans for Texas and needs to take out corrupt dishonest leaders first.

The majority of "NON-DENOMINATIONAL" churches have a founding pastor who OWNS the property, buildings, everything including the nickel in the offering plate. It is non-denominational for the main reason that it does not answer to anyone but the owner and it pays no taxes. Thus, more often than not, the owner has several homes (including for his grown children), a lake house, luxury vehicles, boats, ski lodge and a airplane. The typical church goer goes for the Pentecostal type "show" rock music, smoke, professional band plus a "puff" sermon about feelings and being your best self. GIVING is always very important to the pastor.

They also have those lucrative loopholes that allow them to live in those " PARSONAGES!" Thats why many individuals want to be " on staff," at more well known churches. There's that loophole to live luxuriously without taxes and scrutiny. 😊

As a retired police officer, I refer to this as normal human behavior. I watched this all too often. Inappropriate for anyone… unethical for everyone… but very very common… no matter the political affiliation.

I think Morris' son starting a new church elsewhere, and separating himself from Robert, instead of him taking over at Gateway, is the better outcome. Gateway was hurt by the Morris'. There's no reason for another Morris to take over, at Gateway. While at the same time, there's no reason to punish the son for what the father did. The son can still pastor, if God really called him to preach. Just not at Gateway.
