When I go camping I simply take a sleeping bag, a tarp, a ground sheet, a water bottle, fire steel, map, compass, rolled oats, raisins and a pan. additionally I also take one pair of spare socks, pants and a vest along with a toothbrush and a sponge and some noose wire and a knife and a little salt - that is it. As far as I am concerned camping is all about getting away from the unnecessary complications of modern life and allowing oneself to start communing with nature.

Hi Phoebe, nice to see these gadgets ( although not for wild camping at all) andI am enjoying reading your extreme sleep book at the moment. I do think you claim of being the first female wild camper in extreme places a little hard to swallow however. I myself, now in my fifties did my first solo wild camp aged 13 in the Brecon beacons and have solo wild camped ever since, so long before you were born. I also know of other women who have wild camped for many years. In fact when I was young many of us wild camped in the wilds of Britain and like me some still are 40 years on! It's great as you are loving wild camping, as it is rarer with young females today, but please ensure you do not make claims until you are certain of your facts. Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more of your stuff!

Jo Lutas Hi Jo - thanks for your kind words! Certainly never claimed to be the first female wild camper the phrase is in relation to 'extreme sleeper' and the fact I coined the term and relates to my Extreme Sleeps Challenge where was the first person to sleep at the extreme points of mainland Britain, solo, on consecutive nights! Loads of wild women - such as yourself and many many more before you were born too - and I hope, with a little encouragement- many more to come after 😊

+ExtremeSleeps Thanks for lovely reply Phoebe! Yep, you are correct about many women camping in extreme places since time began! I love Grandma Gatewood's story for example! I once lived camping for six months, so yes long term wild camping is wonderful, and I find it tough to return to normality even after just one night! Keep up the good work!
