It’s so frustrating to hear repeated misspeaking about wind speeds by reporters. Category 5 at 150 mph does not mean “winds up to 150 mph.” It means SUSTAINED winds of 150 mph with gusting winds higher than that. Seems small, but why can’t anyone get it right?

Thank you for your comment. I did not know that the indication for cat. 5 was "sustained" winds. To me, the reporter getting it wrong is irksome, to say the least. It's not that they are just reading a teleprompter or that you can't expect them to know everything. For one thing, these TV reporters, like so many other professions are sorely lacking in broad-based knowledge and in small details which reveal that they don't have mastery of their craft. Also, the editor/producer are ultimately to blame. Not paying attention to detail, more interested in show than substance. It's a joke what the intellectual standards have become in this country. We used to have a literacy rate to rival any country in the world, now it is about 86%. I hate that people don't know that they don't know. In other words, they are oblivious to their lack of knowledge, and esteem their expertise/understanding more than they should.

Sebring is one of the places people can evacuate TO. It is inland enough (3 counties from the coast in either direction) that for its county (Highlands) a voluntary evac was issued for mobile homes. I live about 40 miles north up US-27 and there is nearly no one that is that worried who resides in Polk, Hardee, Highlands, or Osceola counties. These areas are only expecting up to 6 inches of rain, and at most cat-one winds. It doesn't mean that things can't happen, but our home is on the escape route for those immediately on the Gulf. It is okay to relax a little regarding your friend. The further away from the area that the "news" station is, the more extreme the reporting.

We ran out of gas at most all stations beginning on Monday in Town n Country, Dale Mabry hwy south of Bearss & Ehrlich intersection. I don't see where DeSantis claimed there's plenty of gas available ??? maybe up north in Wesley Chapel area but, not around the Tampa Intn'l airport area. I still have 70 miles worth for after the hurricane so that will have to do. I began searching on Monday evening!! I am in zone C, stopped in at Citrus park police station who helped me figure out where I am located on the map. They were so kind and helpful. God bless all of us during Wednesday night and Thursday. 🙏🙏🙏❤️🫂😺 Will be thankful when Friday is here. TY for your reporting and updates. God watch over Sarasota with all angels on board.

I looked up how 150 mph winds map on the enhanced fujita scale. It's in the middle of the EF3 range. I was in a building hit by an EF3 tornado a few years ago. The roof was stripped away. Outer walls collapsed. Windows broke, allowing the wind to strip the surfaces off many *interior* walls. Outside, cars were lifted up and thrown onto other cars in piles up to 3 high. The economic impacts on the community were significant, and this is in a situation where the storm was only a hundred or so yards across, lasting only minutes, AND didn't hit the local hospital or emergency services AND didn't include any significant flooding.

this is how you know WE CAN'T control the weather
@s.patterson5698Күн бұрын
WRONG! This how you know they do....they know how to set it in motion and to intensify it and change it's direction. They have been doing this for decades. It is not a conspiracy theory. The CIA director admitted it in a speech he gave, and one of the earliest companies involved was GE. In one of their experiments, they made a hurricane shift direction by 100 miles and intensify it's strength. If they were able to do that decades ago, then what are they now capable of? I wish I was wrong, but these are factual. Your basic thought is valid, but the premise is backwards. The real question should be, what valid reason is there for them not to have developed a reverse mechanism? It might be the same reason why they have blocked every invention that would bring about free energy to the masses....economics. The more people are dependent on you is the more control you have over them. Money is made in war, epidemics,.....and drum roll pleasssseee....the rebuilding efforts after "natural" disasters. It is a sad way to think, but people are evil to their core.
