The 3 first basemen Jon mentioned Cabrera (.306); Pujols (.296); and Fielder (.283) lifetime average were all better hitters than Pete and had long careers. Pete is more in line with sluggers of the past like Harmon Killebrew and Dave Kingman. That said, the Mets and Alonso are still a good fit at least for the next few years.
