On the next episode, Michael shows how his pedal board can fly a F-16.

Caught you on Rhett's vlog...some righteous versatility and playing with Noah & band. This was another good one, too. God bless you!

I have a feeling the King of Tone is gonna start growing on you more and more... we seem to play with very similar tones at the gigs we play, and my KoT over the years has slowly edged out all my other drive pedals. The Lightspeed comes on and off my board, but the KoT just has all those frequencies that I need!! Looks like a do-it-all board, great vid!

I just picked up the little Hotone Control which is a 4 switch controller to pair with my HX Stomp. Setup was super easy, and now I'm suddenly realizing the advantage of a V2 Strymon Flint.

The Boss ES-5 has been a game changer for me for similar reasons as your Mastermind. Another benefit besides those you mentioned: If you have to program your presets in advance, you think through your parts more carefully in advance.

I'm coming from Rhett's latest video. You sound amazing in Noah's band, I hope you keep touring with them.

Awesome, to have MIDI switcher that would send patch change to effects like H9 is really great.

I keep looking for a used Lightspeed. No luck yet. I think that speaks well for it.

The idea of one button switching out multiple units is attractive. I don’t have any units that could really qualify as “engine” type effects, but if I did, I would definitely go MIDI at that point. You might want to consider getting one of the newer MIDI capable programmable overdrives? That plus a boost, and the Light-speed would probably give you all the gain stages that you would need?
@MichaelWWestbrook2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that would be killer. I considered an RJM overdrive that does midi but never made the jump. After having the board for a while I like the drive section is pretty dummy proof.

@@MichaelWWestbrook with the ability to rearrange Loops you have more sonic options when stacking your Drives, you probably don't need more than three Drives.

I guess it's possible to set the pedals how you want, and then get the controller to save the current state? It all has to be programmed from the controller?

I like how he acts like there’s another reason why the best and most expensive pedals are on top and not hidden underneath.

I was wondering if your tele is custom shop? Looks gorgeous. Thanks
@markleach42 жыл бұрын
He did a video on it. It's a Fender American Vintage Reissue 62 custom telecaster. I remember he said he changed out the neck pickup so it would have a closer volume to his main guitar, which I think was a strat. He also had it refretted since it had vintage fret wire originally.
@MichaelWWestbrook2 жыл бұрын
Yes, both pickups were changed to Fralin Blues Specials. A touch hotter than a normal Tele

How does the Belle compare to the ODR-1 side of the Protein?

I haven’t compared them side by side so hard to say. I do like the extra features on the Belle though.

What are you using as a case for this board and is it heavy weight wise? Where did you buy this board? Thanks!

Do you have to run into the two inputs on the H9 to make it stereo? Or can you just run into one of the inputs and come out of both of the outputs on the H9 with an insert cable going into the return loop on the RJM?
@MichaelWWestbrook2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that’s correct. H9 can run Mono in, stereo out

Thanks for the video. I’m just getting into midi with a mostly strymon board. I’d love to do the gain staging thing with analogue pedals again - how do you build a double decker board like that?
@MichaelWWestbrook2 жыл бұрын
I bought the bottom and shelf separately on reverb

Considering how many drive pedals you've got and that pedalboard is programmable and that you have full sized volume pedal on it, it is relatively compact. I like it a lot! What model of the board is it? For people who want this level of functionality on a lot smaller board, I would definitely recommend the Boss ms-3 efffect unit and switcher. It has got 3 loops for gain pedals, it is a pro grade midi switcher so it is great in combination with midi pedals (in my case midi delay and reverb after its outputs). Plus, it has a lot of great effects built into it that cover the teritory of H9 (swiss army) and has indeed great digital compressors, boosts, drives and eq's that can help a lot in shaping those three gain pedals in the loops pre or post. They actually work great even though they are digital. I switched from a bigger switching system (Boss ES-8) trying to downsize, and it did not only provide what I already had in terms of tones, but added a load more options and useful things ,(master eq and volume, individual patch volume, internal drive gain levels programmable per patch, internal delays and reverbs used for stacking or non conventional sounds, thus keeping the external midi ones for 'regular' delay and reverb sounds, tuner that works alright for live gigging etc)... I would like to hear more of your presets from this board along with the momentary on-screen text explanation of what we are hearing (what effects, order, settings). Cheers

The Lehle has a good input buffer that I hit first. There aren’t any stand alone buffers other then what’s built in the RJM

Really good content - I’ve recently gotten a PBC6x to accomplish much of what you’re doing here (have a fair number of overlapping pedals, or at least similar pedals) … so need to build a new board! A few questions - first is what board are you using? I really want a 2 tier setup to get power and pedals I don’t need access to under the hood. Second - I’m assuming the H9, Empress and Big Sky are not in loops and you’re using CC/PC to turn them on/off and select the preset? Thanks!!
@MichaelWWestbrook2 жыл бұрын
The board was a flat board I bought from Three Circle Designs. I bought the shelf from Reverb. The H9 is in a loop so I can change the order, the Empress and Bigsky are not. I actually just have a preset with no effect programmed on both so it makes easy - it’s all PC
