That Stokowski LP is available on RCA Living Stereo. So the sound on this recording might be inferior to the same LP in it's Living Stereo edition.

The Beatles Sgt Pepper Nimbus supercut is reputed to be the finest sound quality copy ever made, wish i had bought one back in the 80;s but would probably be too scared to take it out of its sleeve!

Like you I hate pressing bubbles. I used to have an amp which had a mono switch and using it got rid of most of the background noise without compromising the sound. I'm not sure what the best way to play mono records on stereo equipment is without such a switch. Mono cartridges are ridiculously expensive for only occasional use.

If you only have a few mono records then a switch on the amp (not easy to find these days) is good enough. For a large mono collection I'd recommend a 2nd TT (second hand) with a dedicated mono cartridge. This is what I have done with the Pioneer PL-400 and the Grado mono cart costing £129 each.

Yes 1999 - wow - sorry I missed that. No way is that worth £200 then.
