Awesome Job Red Beard! Might consider a chip Tray for the Lathe. I bought a 2X4 drip tray from Walmart (it was in Automotive) & installed it between the lathe and table surface. Makes for easy clean up.

Love your production values .... very professional. Just a note on your MIG welding technique ..... always push into the weld with any gas shielding process. Only drag when arc welding.
@RedBeardOps3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip! I've been doing the exact opposite!
@Skinflaps_Meatslapper3 жыл бұрын
@307Driftwood I started out with flux core and it took me a month to re-learn how to weld with shield gas. Breaking old habits suck, and so do the welds in the meantime LOL

If your tapping a series of through holes with a drill stick to a gun tap so it has a bit more core strength and it can push the chips forward. spiral flute taps are great for blind holes but can snap a bit easier with hand tools. great setup!

Looks really good, always good to start to get things sorted and laid out who you want them. The only thing I might have done different is have the new table bolt to the old one with some locator tabs on the old one, BUT, that's just so I could pull it apart to move it if needed and not as strong as what you've done. That square kit looks very handy I must say :) Might have to look into those.

Looking Great! Good job making due with what you can in these tough times. I recently got a some Fireball squares almost the same as yours and love them. Have you seen his video on welding sequence to keep things square? It's good. I just made a bench this spring for my grinder and drill press and got a chuckle when your leg lined up with your plug outlet. Is that a rule that has to happen because same thing happens to me lol. Keep up the good work!
@RedBeardOps3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Chad! I know right.... I ended up shifting it a little off the wall so that I can get to the plug. I need to re-watch the fireball videos for sure. Thanks for dropping a comment, cheers!

Good job! The color on your lathe looks like it has the original paint and in great shape. I have the longer version from 1939 that was my grandfather's. A sheet of something under the lathe would be nice like maybe stainless or formica. How tall is your lathe bench from the floor? I need a new bench. I bought a sheet of plastic at a yard sale. It's a clean 1" thick blue wall for a bathroom stall (without graffiti). I also bought a piece of butcher block, but either would need support like you did. Looking at yours, a sheet of stainless that would come down the back wall, bend 90 deg, come forward across the table top, bend down the front of the board and then under, would be a really, really nice touch. It should be at least 16 ga or thicker since it gets those little dents and then bring it to my house and I'll report back how it's doing.
@RedBeardOps Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips. I put the lathe at around 38 inches.

Awesome video. I have a question did you wire up the drum switch to your lathe or was it that way when you got it. I still can’t figure out how to wire up the drums which I have for my life which is the Same one you have would it be to Too much to ask for some pictures of how it wired up
@RedBeardOps3 жыл бұрын
Hey man it was on there when I bought it, but I did take it apart and rewire it to run. It runs forward in both orientations of the switch... which is probably not right. I did it here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4CVmn6jmb-GpLM
@Junkmann-kp9mv3 жыл бұрын
Thank you I have the same problem I wired it up from all the videos I’ve seen on KZbin and I still can’t get it right it seems to go forward in both positions still can’t get it to reverse. Appreciate the help and then I try to do some more research

I'm not sure where to ask this, I'm not on the twistagram or the facetok so youtube is it for me. But you seem like you know your stuff when it comes to the ekectrical side of things. Would I be able to utilize the unused dryer plug-in in my breezeway to power a 2x72 grinder?
@RedBeardOps3 жыл бұрын
Man.. I really don't know for sure. But if you have a 220 plug and a 220 grinder I don't see the issue. I would probably check the breaker to make sure the motor your using doesn't over run it amps wise.... If in doubt... call an electrician.
