G'day everyone,
A mod that has been on my list for a long time is a way cover for the lathe bed. Most of the cutting action happens directly above the ways and as a result chips and swarf will be deposited on to the ways. I always try to keep these ground in surfaces as clean as I can, but I always find small chips under the carriage.
As well as a way cover, a leadscrew cover is also on my list of upgrades. Fine chips will get stuck on to the leadscrew, and I have to clean them before I use it.
I also want to try and increase the rigidity of the carriage at the same time, and I will do this by bolting on a large piece of steel bar. There isn't much material in the standard carriage, so any extra material should help increase the rigidity and improve the cut.
I hope you enjoy the video.
