To play wide is to get lots of territory, worlds, space and all the potatoes you can find, this adds to your empire size and slows tech & tradition growth to compensate for your new potatoes. But what If there was an empire that just said 'No' to this empire size? Meet the hive mind! This video was recorded and edited a bit faster than my usual full playthroughs so there isn't quite as much detail on a few things within the game Itself as I am still working on the OTHER full playthrough and am insanely busy with real world obligations! That said, was a lot of fun and really really hope you all enjoy! :)

So this is entirely glossed over, but has anyone else ever realized how messed up it is that the devouring swarm can sell food on the galactic market? Afterall what is their food?

I know it's 6 months late, but I like to believe the internal market is run by smugglers from other empires, but unfortunately the hives still have market in early game so that theory doesn't hold up

just finish up a devouring swarm, with ACOT/GIGA. Running with Infecting Hive origin... but my dumb butt didnt realise that i started converted planets to my prefered type after colonization. So mistakenly dove into habitats until terraforming... yeah that was a mistake. But then i blew up thanks to tech. 3 empires tried to become crises. I kinda just left the galaxy to itself and devoured the remants. Unbidden had absolutely terrible luck in their spawn... pinned against a fallen empire with my main fleets within jump drive distance... they didnt last long.

I hope they do some more adjustments, I feel like the handful of means that exist to reduce the sprawl penalties are all just too small to bother with, in particular Imperial Perogitive I feel like reduce it overall, not just from planets. Edict fund also needs tweeking because of how it scales up. In the past executive vigor got you 2 edicts, but now if you play wide it won't might not even fund half of 1.
@synthetic2402 жыл бұрын
Well, the problem with the previous version was that it was way too easy for every empires, wide or tall, to stay under the admin cap for the vast majority of the game. And Wide empires had it easiest of all, except with Edict costs. In many ways, those old Bureaucrat jobs were more valuable than Researcher jobs until the moment you were under your empire cap. Personally I think the current patch is exactly where it needs to be. As long as you don't neglect Unity, you'll get all your perks before the final crisis and it's harder for large empires to become overwhelming tech gods. They'll be overwhelming military gods instead lol. So yeah, you'll never be able to play a Wide empire with no penalties, but anything you can do to reduce those penalties is more valuable than upgrading a Research Lab or buying a few pops. Reducing tech costs makes your existing researchers more efficient with almost no upfront cost and with no recurring costs.

Not sure when the Relic Rails site was added to the game, but it was certainly before 3.0 and the Custodian Initiative, so not new. People just never really saw it because it only has a chance of spawning after you build a housing building (Luxury Residences, Hive Warrens, Drone Storage), which wasn't a very common move back in 2.8 and under when you were eagerly waiting for your next building slot unlock to get more specialist jobs going.

Uber late to the party here but when I ran across this video I'd been prepping ideas for a striking similar Devouring Swarm run. This video was informative. My main difference is that I'm planning to make the Shitake Collective (depicted as adorable capped mushrooms) a subterranean race. They love their neighbors. Neighbors make excellent compost. I don't know how well Subterranean will work in practice beyond covering over weaknesses with Hive Mind but it's partly done for the lols. I'm not sure how the meta's changed but the uber mineral eco and minimum habitability shouldn't hurt. I appreciate the video, Lath, and now I'm off to conquer a different galaxy so both of our fungoid peoples can eat their respective steamrolled galaxies in peace...
