Lots of upgrades on their way for the Dart retrofits such as only diving when closer to the enemy, having a spin block on the nose to aid with the final turns and LOTS more! :D

(Hey lath! I don’t mind less FtD, personally. Means I get more time to make these.) “Break! Break! Break!” Commander Michael Anderson, the CAG of the RCV Blood and Iron, shouted into his mic as he spun his 60-meter wide wedge of an interceptor narrowly away from a missile, spoofing it with the quick turn and a quick burst of flares and allowing it to lock onto one of the capital ships of the Resistance fleet - the missile pulverizing itself against the ship’s powerful shields. His wingman, Lieutenant Frederick Miller, broke off directly upwards and streaked back around. As Anderson evaded a laser pulse from the maneuverable yet fragile eyeball-shaped demonic fighter on his tail, Miller lined up a shot. A stream of 110mm rail-propelled shells appeared, utterly pulverizing the eyeball in a deflection shot. There was little respite, however, as Knife Three and Knife Four both had laser pulses from three enemy craft apiece melt through the thick armour on their craft and spiraled off into space, their RCS systems most likely hit. Anderson, trusting his wingman to see what he was doing and having little time for radio comms, simply cut thrust and flipped his craft around. Allowing momentum to carry him backwards, he locked onto three of the demonic fighters and let loose his entire missile complement - four missiles per fighter. The maneuverable craft were able to evade one or two of the missiles, but Anderson’s utterly massive thrust-vectoring AASM-08s would eventually force all three of the craft to simply turn into dust as the Commander cheered wildly - that made his fifteenth kill of the war so far. Miller pulled much the same maneuver, but his choice of armament was his 110 rotary railguns rather than any fancy schmancy missiles. Sheer kinetic force would prove to be sufficient this day, however, and the Lathrixians - evidently novice pilots - were taken aback by the sudden maneuver and pulverized. That made seven kills already for two lost Vulture heavy fighters. However, one of the eyeballs had just about managed to get a shot off at Miller. The laser pulse burned through his fighter’s relatively weak shields and nearly a sixth of his engine armour before it ran out of power, and Miller was soon able to form back up with Anderson as his frontal shield slowly recharged. Using their short break from combat to take in the situation, the two victorious pilots looked over their sensors. For once, the Resistance seemed to be actually winning against their Lathrixian counterparts in terms of kill ratios, albeit not by a whole lot. While the Vultures - the heavy fighters flown by Anderson and Miller - were typically writing off three eyeballs for every loss, 3/4ths of the fleet’s fighter squadrons was flying the much smaller and cheaper Hawk-class light interceptor. Here, the eyeballs seemed to be perfectly designed for combatting them - their laser weapons and highly maneuverable but weak missile spam were incredibly effective against the weak armour plating and completely missing shielding of the lighter interceptors, whereas the Hawks themselves were having issues scoring hits on any properly maneuvering demonic fighter. Despite this, however, the Hawks and their aircrews were scoring favorable kill ratios. The Resistance’s new enemy seemed to put very little emphasis on fighter combat, and the pilots were very clearly subpar at zero-G maneuvering. Whereas the Hawks, Vultures, and Mantis gunships of the Resistance were making constant use of their RCS, reverse thrusters, and side/top facing engines, the eyeballs were seemingly flying almost as if they were in an atmosphere. Anderson keyed his mic, noticing an eight-craft formation of eyeballs closing on an already embattled wing of four Hawks and a single Mantis that had hopped in to help. “Miller, we got trouble. Targets Red Sixteen through Red Twenty Four.” “I see them, Commander. Plan?” “We take them head on, then I jet below them and you above. Catch them in the crossfire.” “Seems logical enough, sir. I’ve got two missiles left.” “Use them. I’ve got none remaining here, but we do need them to evade if we’re going to make this work.” Anderson then threw the throttle forwards, accelerating constantly due to the total lack of air resistance. The Legion craft, as predicted, turned to engage. However, Miller’s two missiles prevented them from getting a clear shot for fear of rapid disassembly. The Resistance pilots had a similar issue, however. The eight eyeballs unloaded a batshit insane amount of missiles into the air - the radar read a hundred contacts, but there were likely at least a dozen more. Both of the Vultures had been equipped with a laser pod for missile interception, but this was insane. “Miller, switch to your laser pod and take out as many of those as you can. Initiate maneuver on my mark.” Not needing to verbally acknowledge, a flurry of laser pulses streaked out from both Vultures. Even their railguns spoke, downing several dozen more of the missiles before they could reach the heavy fighters. As the remaining dozen or so missiles rapidly closed, along with the eyeballs, Anderson shouted into his mic. “Initiate!” The maneuver worked splendidly. Upon seeing the two heavy fighters jet in opposite directions, the eyeballs (having evaded the missiles by now) all moved to engage Miller. As their pulse lasers collected energy on the noses of their craft, Anderson flipped back over to his railguns and fired a devastating burst through the enemy formation. No less than five fighters were pulverized before his weapons clicked empty, at which point three laser pulses lanced out - now aimed at Anderson - and nailed his aircraft. One downed the shields, the next tore through the armour, and the final one blew off half of his engines. Luckily for Anderson, Miller was already on it. Having flipped around and reversed thrust, he let loose with his own 110 burst and disintegrated the remaining three enemies. “You alright, Anderson?!” He received no response for a minute or two, and then finally his radio sparked to life. “I’m alive. Had to send off my copilot and weapons officer to do damage control.. managed to vent the rooms that were on fire. Good shooting today.. I’m going to need an escort back in, if you don’t mind?” “Of course sir. That makes what, four times ace for you?” “Indeed. And I do believe you’ve just made ace. Seems like that was the last of them, the frigates should show up any minute now to wipe clean any survivors..” Miller chuckled, then formed back up on his commander’s wing. “So, who’s buying?” “What, drinks? I doubt there’ll be any left after this. With all the kills our heavies just got? No way in hell we’re finding anything half-decent.” “Oh, come on. You just don’t want to pay.” “Counterpoint: I’m in command, and I order you to shut the fuck up.” They both chuckled, Miller dutifully shutting the fuck up. Just as he did, a transmission arrived from FLEETCOM. “Priority message to all gunships and troop transports: this is the RCV Built to Last. We have been boarded in multiple hangar bays. Enemies have incredible durability. Requesting any and all transport-capable craft transfer all available SEALs and Marines to Hangar Bay Three.” Miller re-opened comms with his flight lead as they slowly cruised back to the Iron, the Commander being forced to only burn for short periods of time before flipping his aircraft and burning again to counter the spin resulting from only one operational engine in the vacuum of space. “You hear that? They boarded the Last!” “Yeah, I did. They’ll be fine. Seriously, I’ve been stationed in bay three before - thing can literally fit a frigate inside, actually has a couple times. It’s how you see that supercarrier deploying frigates. Those gunships are going to have a field day, and that’s nothing compared to what the Marines are going to do once they get access to the tanks being held in there.” “Yeah, but.. I dunno. What if they send specops after the Admirals? Shit, I think Wright’s aboard!” “Not your job, mate. Just focus on the fact that you went from two kills to eight in less than twenty minutes.” Miller sighed, knowing the older pilot was right. There was no way for them to help the two Admirals, and besides.. two of them in one spot would definitely require at least six or eight SEALs. If they couldn’t save the two fleet leaders, the pilots - only trained with SMGs and the more powerful rail-assisted revolver handguns - really wouldn’t be able to help. “Fine, you win. Let’s just get you back in one piece.. even if that one piece has a couple of holes in it.” The two met no opposition on their way back to the Iron, which slowly streaked into view. The veteran Commander Anderson had no issues landing such a damaged plane, either - the craft itself was a write-off, but it still had plenty of spare parts that could be used for upkeeping the rest of the air fleet. That’s all for today. Sorry this is a slightly shorter one and apologies for missing last video, I didn’t have any time to write over the past few weeks. I’m back, though! Let me know if you enjoy my take on starfighter combat, or if you think the Legion needs to be more powerful in this aspect too - I just wanted the Resistance to completely dominate in one or two aspects of war while the Legion wrecks them everywhere else. The next comment is probably going to cover the battle on board the Built to Last, and the one after that? Well, I’ve not really planned that far ahead. We shall see. Also, think of the Vulture as a Halo Longsword and the Hawk as a BSG Viper. That’s not really what I have in mind, but thats the closest I can find. The Lathrixian fighters are basically the Reaper eyeballs from Mass Effect but bigger.

Ooooh, yes, the WF got defeated by the SS in my campaign playthrough too. Looks like I got lucky that the LH in my run were feeling magnanimous... 😅 Edit: sticking Heavy Armour on the front of those Darts is probably soaking up the HE damage of their own nukes. Replacing it with a weaker material will allow those nukes to deal more damage, I reckon.

I did tests with no armour and lighter armour and didn't really see a huge difference, but that certainly makes sense and I should check again! The main issue is without it the Darts tend to detonate from even light AA fire before reaching the target since they are so lightly armoured and going straight at the target makes them so easy to hit haha! :)

The LH are 'friendly' with the OW, the faction you're currently fighting, which means that as you're destroying and capturing OW ships, the LH are getting a bit ticked off that their friends are getting freed from the mortal coil.

This is Lieutenant Lowry of the Onyx Watch. I'm still new to this whole log thing. Getting promoted just a solar cycle ago, still trying to get over the excitement and new resposeabilitys. We haven't been doing so well against these newcomers who have came into our little world. They've all but obliterated the Deep Water Guard. And have made some nasty enemy's of the lightning hoods. But now they have turned their gaze upon us. They've tooken one of our artillery ships and "retrofitted "it they have all but mangled it and rebuilt what was left. I'm due for a meeting soon to talk with the rest of my ships crew.

What lathrix should do is retrofit the darts to still have their weapons but also a nuke so using an acb it changes the AI to a 0 meter high bombing run once the health drops to like 70 percent or something and the planes kamikaze into the enemy ships, as a sort of ode to the blood god

You know what this game needs? Part welding. The ability to "weld" individual parts together, to make them into one part, so that ships have fewer "parts" spawned, so the system has less to keep track of in a battle. Welding parts together would make Components. Components would break along the "weld lines" between the "parts" the "components" are made of. This would preserve them brekaing apart, but the computer would have less to keep track of all at once.

"one thing led to another, a few drinks was had, and then suddenly nukes were involved!" this, this right here is why I watch these videos. also lore: The following documentation is from report OWI-974 Captains log 1364, I knew it wouldn't be long before The Drunkard turned his sights upon us. At 0457 this morning we spotted a small fleet of "dart" class aircraft. My executive officer joked that it must be cheaper to lose them to the enemy than the scrap yard. I couldn't help but think of my dearest Erine during times like those. The fleet approached in the standard "every goddamned direction" formation. We first noticed that something was amiss when 4 of the aircraft headed directly towards the ship. we fired a full broadside at one but it just evaded. The first one crashed on the waterline of our starboard side and threw the ship three meters into the air. My thoughts that at the time seemed like my last were "that crazy bastard strapped nukes to light fighters." As we landed a second explosion threw seawater 15 meters in the air, shattered the bridge windows, and threw us back even more. I tried to call the maintenance crew for that section, but all that was coming through the line was the ocean breeze. A third explosion close to the second but a good 15 meters away at this point, sent more seawater skyward. I called on the intercom to shoot those abominations out of the sky, then told the helmsman to position for a broadside. I glanced at the modern targeting system integrated into the ancient ship and saw a single faint blip a kilometer and a half away. It was at that moment I realized I was as old as the ship. The shells rocketed out of the cannons towards our dommed opponent, but I could not see an explosion to mark a hit. My first mate screamed "Captain" and I looked over to see him pointing at a small red plane barreling down towards us. It hit us square in the main mast and shattered the other two, leaving us a floating adrift. for another thirty minutes, we scanned the horizon while attempting to bail out as much water as we can to keep her adrift, but nothing came. I gave the abandon ship order if he wants my ship so bad he can have it. Though I won't sacrifice my crew to achieve that. Captains Log 1365, 0800: I see another three of the flying devils, It has been long past the evacuation order. If I am the last of the old guard, then I think its fitting ill go down with my ship. It comforts me to think that he wasted eight of the devils on two old relics. I've lived enough life, I'm ready for an exciting end. I will be putting my logs in a waterproof strongbox. If you do find these tell my dearest Erine that I won't make it home for that dance I promised her. Addendum: It was discovered that Cpt. Silverblood died during the second wave of assaults on Straussland. Intelligence indicates a furthermore 3 "Dart" class interceptors were sacrificed to destroy Straussland.

I feel like both of the large-scale AIs have their place. The enemy moving entire fleets around and sending battlegroups to their fights seems right for such a large force that has enough power to have individual armies for each map tile. However I also like to see single reinforcements going about, like that healing vehicle coming to assist the damaged compound or perhaps them replenishing the forces of an attack group. It'd be nice to have the best of both, though if you do spread them thin enough they'd send singular ships either way, and with them now fighting wars on many fronts that's quite possible.

Lath... Doomcrams are... VERY FUN Basically if you go above 20000 packing and make it pendepth frag with 180 degree explosion. It litterally kills everything it touches. They are very OP, but if you put it in the mortar craft, it is balanced. Sometimes it hits and does EXTREME damage and sometimes it takes off one piece of metal.

Since you were saying that ex missiles blow each other up; Would it be possible to slow down the missile launch delay a little bit on the Abomination such that the first missile bays that fire are reloaded by the time the last missile has fired, enabling an uninterrupted stream of missiles? I don't think the delay would need to be tweaked that much, the delay between volleys as it stands is only a few seconds, but a literal constant stream of high explosive danger dongs sounds extremely on brand for Slaneesh. As a bonus, it would be hell for laser munition defense Edit: Have you done a cost-benefit analysis on cruisers with large missles vs. carriers with a swarm of stripped down Dart nukes? I think the darts could be a lot more reliable when you take into account LMDs

Oh man, a supercarrier with a dozen nuke darts it can release one at a time would be amazing and would fit the purpose built thing you're doing this run. I'm thinking Nurgle for it, make it big and slow like The Plague Cauldron, a captured Iron Cordon could be kitted out, maybe? Or even equip the mobile base with a couple plague bearer darts

Also, some laser defense for the nurgle ships kinda fits because you get hurt by their toxic miasma when you get close, yeah? They could even turn off the engines and just tank with their heavy armour and lasers to save some energy/mats
