Rocio, I completely agree with you, her way of singing totally makes you feel it. I've tried to understand it by listening to the original versions and noting the differences. To me, the subtlety and nuances of her phrasing, her timing, and how relaxed she seems to be so that the feeling is not rushed but breathes into you, seems to me to be something she uniquely combines in her own creative way to produces a multi-layered artistry.

She to me is one of the best singers I have ever heard . Probably because she's real honest and loves what she does. She sings for herself and others. Yes Rocio, most of her recordings are a Masterpiece & this is just another one. She is 12 yo here singing in her "Music Corner" of her house (not a studio), to a backing track while Grandma Mery films. A few reactors have seen this video as their 1st time seeing Angelina & they can't believe it's her singing. They can't see her mouth behind the pop filter, so they think it's some kind of trick. The trick is, she is already an incredible artist as a little girl. Now at 16, she is the GOAT & I can't get enough of her. Dear R., you used the term genius several times, and protege, Angelina Jordan Astar IS realy a genius, she is at least 2x as intelligent as a normal human, no joke. Since age 12 she is leading her company AngelinaJordan Inc. beside her uncle Mike. At Republic Records, she has the COMPLETE control over her craft, drawing staryboards for the director, writing songs with her team, designing clothes for the stage (helped by grandma Mery). In musician circles she is known by THE BOSS for good reasons. But as her fans we need to pray and let her know that she can't let these record companies get a hold of her and try to change her way of singing. She is great the way she is she does not need to be changed or coached to sing that she doesn't feel that are wright for her voice. They need to leave her alone. Autotune Angelina Jordan could never use autotune, it would kill the emotion. If autotune is used there’s a lack of emotion by nature, autotune flattens out the pitch and harshens the transitions between pitches. When singers opt for heavy autotune on their vocal track, it tends to kill a lot of the emotion that may have been prevalent in the performance. Conversely, when a singer’s voice is ripping with emotion, it’s a good indication that the track hasn’t been autotuned. Angelina Jordan evokes emotion like no other performer in my past, or possible in my future.

She shakes her head, feels the music, becomes the music and enters her performance mode where beautiful things happen. Angelina is so good at making feel and hear the story of a song. In this simple setting she produces this wonderful performance. Story has she seldom needs more than a single take. Lana made this wonderful song and performs it wonderfully. When comparing the two, I fee Lana’s version has a more haunting desperate feel to it, whereas Angelina gives it a more melancholic, sad feeling to it. I prefer Angelina’s performance as it touches me more, but that is just personal preference.

It doesn't matter if she is covering heartfelt ballads by Lana, Adele or Rhianna, once she applies her own arrangement, coupled with the fact that she is a true jazz singer whereas non of the other three mentioned are. There is no way a non-jazz singer, no matter how good, can bring forth the emotional penetration of a true jazz specialist. She learned this mostly from Billie Holiday, but also from Amy Winehouse. Her ability to be a 'vocal chameleon' allows her to emulate any artist's voice she desires, especially with regard to Adele.
