War between japan and the Philippines ended in 1944 which is only 11 years from 1956. that is why there is this thing against japanese. But today, Japan is one of the closest friends of the Philippines. I myself lived in japan for 5 years. I love Japan

Those born in the ‘60s and early ‘70s felt some negativity against Japan. The generation that experienced the war still talked about it to their children. At present 2024, many Filipinos aged 60 and above share the sentiments of their parents and grandparents.

9:45 On the other hand, during the Second World War, many Korean soldiers were also responsible for many atrocities in the Philippines with the Japanese Empire Army. Those are not forgotten by Filipinos especially those who experienced their cruelty during those times. Even so, the Filipinos cannot harbor a grudge. The truth is, that Filipinos are now closer to Japan and Korea because of anime and KPOP. If the behavior of the Filipinos is similar to the Koreans, indeed...the slavery and cruelty done by the Spaniards for 333 years, Americans for 48 years, and the Japanese along with the Korean soldiers for over 3 years will not be forgiven until now. Fortunately, Filipinos are not like that.

At least USA brought healthcare and education. Spain controlled the lands/haciendas. Sugarcane plantations where they ride horses and whipped the labourers. My grandfather was born in late 1800s. He told us stories of Spaniards’ cruelty.

Cockney accent refers to the accent of people mainly from the Eastend of London. It’s considered as a ‘working class’ accent which is why the English girl in the video says it makes her shudder a little bit hearing it. Methinks she’s being a bit of a snob. 😊

Korea actually get their independence 1 year earlier than the Philippines, idk why they still hold a grudge. And they got colonized by them for only 35 years way less than the americas, and spaniards colonized us

as a filipina, i sort of understand where raul is coming from when he said "i'd love to live in japan." unfortunatey a lot of filipino men (my dad included) feel emasculated left right and center by the power women have in the philippines (if you compare it to other countries it's pretty significant). it's definitely a matriarchy culturally but it's more like a matrio-patriarchy because the women still favor sons, and will still try to put out an image of a normal patriarchal family even though that's not what's really going on behind the scenes. for example in the case of a father or brother that's not really supporting the family, the mothers may pretend that they're doing well and are really providing even if they're not just because the reputation of their entire family depend on the men. unfortunately. but usually the members holding the family together are the women who don't even care to receive credit for it because it wouldn't be culturally appropriate. behind the scenes is a very matriarchal picture. the women usually have the upper hand which you hardly see in any other part of the world. not even in advanced wesrern civilizations like france or america. people like going to the philippines for the cute feminine filipinas not knowing that those filipinas EXPECT the upper hand in the relationship and will not settle for less. so that's probably why raul feels like that but sexism is still not ok.

20:00 jose rizal wrote "the indolence of filipinos" to address the lazy accussations of a lot of spanish people in the islands. i think that the stereotype that we were lazy back then is because we were basically stripped of sovereignty as colonies (so many european colonies in asia). and rizal was saying something like if you gave filipinos something to live for instead of easily taking away whatever they've worked hard for on a whim then maybe they would have more incentive to be industrious.

Raul's generation is the first to start to develop sexism towards the women. During the 1900s-1940s, Filipino men were known to be extremely romantic, there's a reason why the Watsonville Riots happened, Filipino men were so kind, gentlemanly, hardworking for the white women they dated that they ended up marrying them, and the white men got mad. Filipinos were discriminated in the exact same way as the black people in America. Look up "ABSOLUTELY NO FILIPINOS ALLOWED" It's insane how very few asians heck even filipinos know how how Filipinos were treated. Or how Short filipino men were amazing towards taller women. This modern concept of women being "picky" about men's height is ridiculous. If you're a good man, no matter your height, women will love you. Simple as that.

20:30 European people back then during colonization thought highly of themselves and people who were not the same race, or color as them they considered savages, uneducated, and uncivilized. The reason they look down upon nations of darker complexion such as SEA, SA, Africa, Polynesians, and Native Americans. To this day all over the world still people think like so.

I agree with the Indonesian too, that's also what I felt whenever colonizers say that they just wanted to help. Precolonial Philippines has an order and sytem in the society. The arrival of colonizers didn't allow our societies to fluorish and our culture furthermore. We were left with an identity crisis instead. However, I doubt that there will be Philippines since it was the Spanish who unite all the islands. I'm also frustrated as you are when the British said that Malaya/Malaysia may not be ready for independence yet. Why would they think that they have the right to decide whether a country should be free or not? Freedom is a right, that is why we celebrate our independence on the 12th of June because our ancestors fought for that freedom not the 4th of July, because the Americans just gave it to us. President Quezon was fighting for our freedom to be given earlier but he died not witnessing the 2nd independence of the Philippines. With that, may I suggest you react to the movie, Quezon's Game if you haven't yet already? You might find it interesting since it tackles some of the topics shown in this video, and since you're in Quezon city too.😊

@SolLunaTV 11 ай бұрын
We particularly don't have any prejudice against Haiti, and please don't believe anything you see in those videos. They always portray our country as the bad guy saying a very biased story. The reason why the border was close is because Haiti is violating our agreement by constructing a canal to deviate the river. Nobody is being sent back to Haiti. In fact, our country has supported Haiti the most despite our history. People forget we had our independence FROM HAITI! Yes, it was Haiti that enslaved us and oppressed us for long time and yet we still give their people jobs, free Healthcare, and even Dominican IDs. Most of our exports are going to Haiti and we also give them millions of dollars in donations. But people don't talk about that, because those news don't gain clicks.
