@benjaminmadeira84426 жыл бұрын
Filipus Adendum Brazil is part of Latin America. We speak a Latin language. French Canada is also latino. Just like the Philippines has Latino roots and even parts of India and China... Haiti is also Latino. French colony. Napoleon III invented that term in the XIX century to define the French colonies in America with the Spanish and Portuguese colonies. The USA also uses that connotation to cultural identity. The term was Amérique Latine. Refute that. With solid facts and not opinions.
@benjaminmadeira84426 жыл бұрын
Filipus Adendum Cultural identity is very relative. How someone sees themselves can be very different from their reality or how others perceive them. That’s not something to be used in something you are trying to refute. That’s just opinions, it’s personal. A black person in Brazil often consider themselves “pardos” - our way of saying mixed ethnics (cause of racism that exists :/). Geography and language spaces aren’t. They are defined and built and used in definitive terms. When the term first was used, it was to define all regions of America that spoke French, Spanish and Portuguese. The term was used by the USA too but ended up being strongly about self identity after some time. But that’s not here or there. Brazilians are Latino because they speak Portuguese and are a part of Latin America. Those are definitions. How one identifies oneself than it’s more complex and relative as hell.

@Matty Bruno Lucas Escobar Salas ¡Hola! Argentinian also here. Think the "Hora Loca" is the equivalent for "Carnaval Carioca" that happen normally around 4-5 am in our parties. Most weddings i have assisted were around those numbers you said, but i have also went to the wedding of the daughter of family friends... who i didn't even knew, so there're extreme cases. The Sitting arrangement *is* a thing, still no one stops you from taking your plate, your chair and move to another table (preferible away from the kids table you get assigned because people forget you already finished university). And again, never been on a party that went up for 11 AM, but several of the 15 years parties i went kept going to 9 am, with Pizza + Coffee breakfast. You also must remember that this is a parody video where most of the stuff said is potentiated in aims to make the cultural shock funnier : )

0:40 One of my cousins got married years ago. Her husband told her to keep the guest list down to 200 people. This meant that she had to cut out a lot of the cousins. I was one of the cousins that she did not invite to her wedding. It seems silly and ridiculous now. But, I was deeply hurt. I actually cried. I gave her the silent treatment for over a decade. We would be in the same room, and I just pretended like she didn't exist. This made everyone uncomfortable, so I slowly distanced myself from family events. My first question to my mom would be, "Is she there?" If she was, I wouldn't go. 10+ years later, we both have suffered real pain like the loss of loved ones and personal health issues that we realized how stupid this all was and we are slowly beginning to talk again. P. S. If I ever get married, I will elope in Vegas. That way no one gets hurt, and I save a lot of money! PEACE! 🌺

@Oskxre6 жыл бұрын
ElsaLovesNailPolish Yeah, but in latino weddings you generally want to allocate more budget for food. Things like special decorations, renting tables and stuff are second. Plus, do you even Padrinos? You assign people to buy cake, food, beverages, etc for your wedding. In the future, you will have to return the favor in their wedding/event in some way. It’s about having fun and eat a lot. Not some boring ceremonial bs.
@LC056 жыл бұрын
Oscar E. The way that venues charge, at least in the part of the U.S. where I live, the $50 to $100 per person IS for the food. That means that on the lower end ($50), you will be paying $10,000 in food alone if you have 200 people there. If you don't use their catering service, they charge a fee that often costs even more when combined with paying for the food separately. Some may have the money and will to invite those distant relatives. I, on the other hand, don't want to pay $50 minimum per stranger just out of some ridiculous customary obligation. Regarding padrinos: no, I have always found that extremely tacky. I am not going to have someone pay for the wedding that I want. Growing up, I was always told that if you want something, you need to work hard and get it for yourself because no one else is going to get it for you. Regarding the returning the favor later: I am the youngest in my family, meaning that no I won't be able to return the favor since everyone is already married.
@Oskxre6 жыл бұрын
ElsaLovesNailPolish Ohhh padrinos don’t have to be strictly family members. In many cases they are friends, not family (doesn’t matter if they’re married, you could always give back at their child’s graduation, wedding, etc) But I understand your point. There are cultural differences in American and Latino view regarding spending/sharing. And it’s not a customary ‘obligation’ necessarily . I’ve seen both extremes, some WANT to have a really big party (yeah, even with strangers). Others prefer a more discreet event (20-30 people max). And trust me, you can cut down those cost. Even in the US. You just have to put extra work and don’t rely on the budgets some businesses want to charge you.

My Greek-German cousin invited all the Greek 2nd and 3rd cousins to her wedding in Berlin. They did a courthouse wedding and tried really hard to push the time to as late as possible (2pm hahaha), in central Europe it's normal to do the ceremony in the morning but in Greece you get married in the afternoon, then migrate to the restaurant/party place where you eat and dance and drink until you fall. Anyway, they did a perfect mix of cultures, around 90 people, and when we left the restaurant at 6am the waiters where telling the couple how much they loved it and what a great wedding it was. Never got the concept of a wedding ending before midnight, or formal seating and all this stuff.

In Argentina we called "Carnaval Carioca" to the "Hora Loca", which actually it's an expression to the Carnaval in Brazil (since it is so festive). I totally relate to the 400 guests list with los conocidos... jajaja

Is true. The couple married at 3pm. The party finish at 5am next day...or when the beers,wine and drinks are over(But the drinks never ends because Latinos buy a LOT of alcoholic drinks)

I can totally relate to "hora loca". I'm from Brazil, and we don't really call it "hora loca", but in the middle of the party everyone starts giving those Halloween costumes, hats, glasses and glowing bracelets. Also, the party is only beginning at 11pm, dude not even my grandma goes home 11pm

At my wedding my husband was already dead on his feet by 1 am. My family kept partying until 8 am 😂
