left home at the age of 18 without graduating from school. His father, who had wanted him to be a lawyer, was disappointed. Freddie traveled to faraway places carrying with him only his guitar. With no one to guide and discipline him, he got into gambling. Realizing and regretting his mistakes five years later, Freddie composed "Anak", a song of remorse and apology to his parents. He went back home and asked for forgiveness from his parents, who welcomed him with open arms

Freddie Aguilar is a Filipino musical legend. He had contributed greatly to the overwhelming popularity of the karaoke all over world as this song "Anak" surely became a favorite. And, so many international singers sang cover of this song in different languages. This song relates to a particular son or daughter, who went astray and fully realized his/her shortcomings. Very meaningful message.

The lyrics you just read Efra is not an accurate translation of the song. "Anak" (Filipino for child or more gender specific my son or my daughter) is a Tagalog song written by Filipino folk-singer Freddie Aguilar. It made the finals for the inaugural 1978 Metropop Song Festival held in Manila. It became an international hit, and was translated into 27 languages. Aguilar's "Anak" not only broke the Philippine record charts in 1979, but it also hit the no. 1 spot in Japan and achieved considerable popularity in other countries as Angola, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and parts of Western Europe. The song has become so famous that, by some counts, it has been recorded in as many as a hundred versions in 23 languages throughout the world. Billboard reported that the song was the number two world hit of the 1980s. As of 2006, it was unsurpassed as the highest-selling record of Philippine music history. (based on Wikipedia) fyi: the song was released in 1978

Anak is tbe most translated song in Philippine music history. The theme of the song is about parental love and the biblical parable of "The Prodigal Son".. In a way its also a story of the life of FREDDIE AGUILAR, who as a youth stop schooling and live a life on the street as musician, drinking alcohol, into drugs, and all the vices. Realising his mistakes, went back to his family and was fully accepted by parents.

This is actually a sad song about a child whom after the parents raised, took care and gave all their love, became rebellious and got into vices when he/she grew up. Then after loosing everything and everyone, the child came back to the parents with huge regrets. It's very similar with the story of the PRODIGAL SON. The Singer was also the one who wrote the song.

That song was a huge hit in the 70s.....the poem translated it so differently from the actual lyrics.....what made this song so popular was both the melody and meaning behind it that was so relatable to the multitude of children that went astray especially to those swallowed by alcohol and drugs. Freddie aguilar is an iconic figure in PH music industry. On another note I just want to say I was the very first ones to let you know how great filipinos are when it comes to music and I remember saying it was so difficult to penetrate your channel and was so surprised how much you appreciated us....you give great reactions....you do research well and Im impressed how well you learn about us and in turn educate us in seeing things in another perspective. ANAK (CHILD) Nung isilang ka sa mundong ito (When you were born into this world) Laking tuwa ng magulang mo (You brought great joy to your parents) At ang kamay nila (and their hands) Ang iyong ilaw (were your light) At ang nanay at tatay mo'y (and your mother and father) Di malaman ang gagawin (were unsure of what to do) Minamasdan (watching over you) Pati pagtulog mo (even while you were asleep) At sa gabi'y napupuyat ang iyong nanay (At night your mother stayed awake) Sa pagtimpla ng gatas mo (mixing your milk/formula) At sa umaga nama'y kalong ka ng iyong (and in the morning you are cradled) Amang tuwang-tuwa sa yo' (so happily by your father) Ngayon nga ay malaki ka na (Now that you're grown up) Nais mo'y maging Malaya (You want to live free) Di man sila payag (Although they do not agree) Walang magagawa (were unable to do anything) Ikaw nga ay biglang nagbago (Now you've suddenly changed) Nagging matigas ang iyong ulo (You've become headstrong) At ang payo nila'y (and their advice) Sinuway mo (you disobeyed) Di mo man lang inisip (It never even crossed your mind ) na ang kanilang ginagawa'y para sa yo (that what they do is all for you) Pagka't ang nais mo'y masunod ang layaw mo (Because all you want is to overindulge ) dimo sila pinapansin (you have ignored them) Nagdaan pa ang mga araw (As the days have gone by) At ang landas mo'y maligaw (You've lost your way) Ikaw ay nalulong (You got addicted) Sa masama bisyo (to bad vices) At ang una mong nilapitan (and the first one you approached) Ang iyong inang lumuluha (is your weeping mother) At ang tanong nila ANAK (and she asked you, CHILD) Ba't ka nagkaganyan? (what has happened to you?) At ang iyong mata'y biglang lumuha (and your eyes suddenly had tears) Ng di mo napapansin (without you noticing) Pagsisisi at sa isip mo't nalaman (Repenting as your mind realized) Mong ika'y nagkamali (You have been wrong)

Anak (released in 1977) was translated to 27 languages. "Legend has it that the demo tape of Anak that he submitted had his voice, his guitar and a rooster crowing in the background because it was recorded in a bathroom. There was also the story of how he was asked not to sing his song in the finals. Better let the extremely popular Rico Puno do it. Freddie held his ground and threatened to withdraw. Anak was his act of contrition to his father and he was not going to give it away. Anak did not win any prize (in the 1977 Metro Manila Popular Music Festival) but it became the most talked about song of the festival and Freddie with his guitar and sequined buntal hat was the most exciting discovery. Vic del Rosario Jr., then the head honcho of Vicor Music Corp. set his massive marketing machine into high gear and turned Anak into a major hit and Freddie into a big star. Anak was translated into 27 languages and was a hit in over 50 countries. Among these were Korea, Thailand, Hong Kong, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium and Japan where a hit chart once had four different versions of Anak in the Top 10. One of those was the original recording by Freddie, who had by then become the leading folk singer in Asia. In fact, he was so popular that folk singers and fans in other countries took to wearing their versions of Freddie’s sambalilo."- www.philstar.com/entertainment/2015/03/04/1429701/continuing-odyssey-anak

Literal translation: When you were born into this world Your parents were very happy and their hands became your light. Your mother and father didn't know what to do, they watch/stare at you even when you're asleep. During the night, your mother couldn't get any sleep because you always asked for milk. In the morning, your father carries you around and you fill him with happiness Now that you've grown, you wanted freedom and although they don't really agree, they can't do anything about it. You have changed so much. You bacame so stubborn and you didn't follow their advise. You didn't even realize that everything they do is all for you. You only cared about your own pleasures. You never really cared about them. A few more days (time/seasons) have passed, you became so lost. You got addicted to very bad vices. The first one that you approached was your mother who was shedding tears and she asked you "my child, what has happened to you?". Suddenly, your eyes started to shed tears without you even realizing it. Regrets was all you could think of because you realized that you were wrong (or made a big mistake).

I’m a Filipino-American living here in CA, the Title of the song is “ ANAK” means 🧒 CHILD, the song is REAL.... the meaning of the song to make it in a very short explanation is “ when this child was born, Mother & Father was so loved the child not even a fly or mosquito can touch this child, but when the child grow up & become an adult,He left his parents although the parents won’t allow him to live, and so the child/son, get involved w/ bad company / friends He became a Drug addict, and finally He went back home to His parents, & the mother said & ask Him” My child why did you become what you are now, a bad son” & the Son was speechless, and suddenly tears run down on His checks “ This song was translated in 167 languages in a hundred plus countries, a song very, very inspiring for children who become stubborn & hooks on drugs or alcohol.Lesson : always listen to your parents advice, who nurture your personality since the time you where born to become a good citizen or person.Thank you for liking of one of the greatest Filipino singer, “ Freddie Aguilar” 🇵🇭👍😌

The song 'Anak' which has a closed literal translation to an english word 'Child' was originally composed and sung by a Filipino songwriter and singer Freddie Aguilar in the 70's. Due to its massive recognition internationally it produces so many child versions in many different languages worldwide and it's nice and proud to hear the many different versions in the different languages being sung with the same melodic pattern basing from the original Filipino song itself.

Absolutely true. Music has its meaning. Connects all races into one humanity. Across the planet people from northern hemisphere to global south could understood the message of the song penetrating the language barrier and understanding it's melody in abstract form even not knowing the meaning of its lyrics. The KZ version sang in twin languages in Filipino and Mandarin was the most brilliant and sorrowful, it brought the best of two world's - Philippine and Chinese cultures.

If you're a native Filipino, every word hits way more different. This is the complete opposite of the song Mapa. The emotion, the musicality, (sorry just don't know how to describe it in a technical way) every word of both songs are too straightforward, they're just exactly what people esp. the parents and children need to hear nowadays.

So much great music and great artists out there waiting for their turn. Thank you for digging up these gems and appreciating them. I first heard of Anak watching your KZ reaction. And now have a better understanding of this song and respect KZ even more for bringing it to the Chinese audience and singing it in Mandarin AND proudly in Tagalog.

Top 5 greatest songs (in tagalog) of Philippines. 1. Anak (the most iconic) 2. Ang huling El bimbo,( best song of the greatest band in philippines-eraserheads) 3. Bakit ngayon ka lang (best duet song) 4. Sana ngayong pasko (close call against “pasko na sinta ko” by gary v) 5. Kahit kailan (most iconic love song) Some of these songs are not my fave but thats most probably most will agree, unless you r only 20 years old

I feel that every time this song is translated, and this has been translated a lot, something is always lost. It's very difficult to capture the essence of this song in it entirety. I might be wrong. it's just how I feel.

I love Your channel. You guys really have a lot of insight and great ability to express Yourselves. When i first heard this song, my Filipino wife translated it for me and tears started streaming down my face. Yes there are lots of translations but they all give a good measure of the emotions in this song.

I appreciate your videos guys! Giving love to my Filipino people’s talent! Grew up on all these songs and I wanted to make a comment saying the translation did not translate correctly therefore the emotions the song conveys did not translate as well! I wish you guys can hear the real translation it’s very sad…basically describes parents that brought us to the world how they loved their child and how they cared for their child, but at some point in the child’s life the world takes the child and the parents are heart broken because to them this person will always be their child , instead “maling landas “ they go astray and go off the wrong path.. but at the end, the parents will always be there for us. , when we need them… thank you

Nearest English translation of Anak "Child" lyrics I can find The day you were born to this world Your parents were full of joy And their arms are your light And your mother and father Worry and don't know what to do Watch over you even in your sleep And in the night, a sleepless night, your mother Is still awake to prepare your milk And in the morning you are in the lap Of your father, who is so joyful (overjoyed) because of you Now you are all grown up You desire to be independent Even if your parents forbid, they can't stop you Isn't it you that changed a lot Disobeyed them, remained stubborn And you did not follow their advice You did not take the time To think about all the things they've done for you For you desire, only what is pleasurable You just ignored them And the days have passed And you took a wrong turn in life You are imprisoned in a horrible vice And you approach Your dear crying mother And she asks "Child, what happened to you?" And your eyes immediately shed tears Without you noticing You are regretful and realize That you were at fault

This song hits hard when you know how to speak Tagalog since the translation changes the message and nothing compares with the language Tagalog on expressing the theme especially that part when the child went astray and the mom asked My child what happened and the child's tears spontaneously fell.Everythin that the parents did were for their child and at the end of the day they will always be there no matter what because that is unconditional love ❤

Here in Belgium before in the 90's you can hear this original song playing, but now it's like 1 or 2 times that you can hear it and of course there is the French version also, but it is very rare also that you can hear it, and it is a pity because its a very nice story for the youngster to hear it and understand it.

Freddie Aguilar is one of my ever favorite singer and artist ever exist in this planet. He written and composed a lot of beautiful songs which had a meaningful lyrics that really describe the reality of life. How I wish you can make a video which is dedicated to play his song only and give your commentary on his songs. Beautiful songs have no expiry date and that’s what Freddie Aguilar songs sounds like.

The song "Anak" was translated into several languages for its universal message. It was an entry at the 1st Metro Manila Song Festival in the 70s, an original composition of THE Freddie Aguilar. It did not win the grand prize but won the hearts of many singers all over the world. "The first line goes: When you were born into this world, your mom and dad saw their dreams come true." The 70s is what we call The Golden Age of OPM (Original Pilipino Music). It was the time the likes of Freddie Aguilar, Kuh Ledesma, Rico J. Puno, Hadji Alejandro, Basil Valdez, etc. are making a kill at the concert stage.
