The actor that you guys were raving about is Kajol. Kajol and SRK are the quintessential Bollywood pair. They have amazing chemistry and their pair is still considered as one of, if not the best Bollywood pair. If you want to watch an old movie, you can opt for Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001). It is a family drama which can be very overwhelming with emotions (both happiness and sadness), which is what I love in a Bollywood movie. It made me cry a lot when I first watched it. Absolutely loved this movie. The cast includes Srk, Kajol, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor.

It was the movie that put SRK on the Throne as "To be King" and was forever the best romantic on screen. DDLJ is still showing in Indian cinemas to this day!

At the age of 75 when Lata Ji was approached to record Luka Chipi she decided to go to Chennai to record the song although A R Rahman was willing to come to Mumbai to record it. After reaching Chennai she straight away went to the studio and heard the song. She asked for a copy of the song in a cassette and went to the hotel to rehearse. For the next 3-4 days she kept on rehearsing the song at the studio and the hotel. On the recording day she stood for 8-9 hours to record the song. Although it was easy to patch a word or a line in the recording she insisted on recording the whole verse if anything was not as per what Rahman wanted. She only had some warm water during that time. It has been a year she left this world, but her voice and songs will always remain alive in the hearts of millions of people.

There is a special theatre maybe in Mumbai dedicated to this movie, where even today a show is reserved for this movie. Its exactly what you were looking for. I bit old, evergreen, drama and beautiful shots. Some parts are shot in Europe and some in India. i would highly recommend it for you.

Couple of pointers: 1. She was 13 yo when she started singing for Movies. That was because her financial condition was very bad despite having a father who was hugely successful in Marathi theatre (musicals). He was an accomplished singer and actor himself. 2. In her initial years, nasal singing voice was very established due to success of her predecessors- especially Noor Jehan. So you can hear a lot of nasal singing from a young Lata in 40s, until she found her own voice- so to say. 3. Lata's high pitch voice lent itself beautifully to the requirements of Indian cinema at the time and specifically for lead female singing voice. Many talented female singers felt eclipsed by her and music directors' preference for a single type of voice. Even her sister Asha Bhonsle had to change the tonality of her voice slightly and had to sing more upbeat songs to be able to survive in the industry obsessed with Lata. 4. Radio was the primary way of consuming music for the country until late 80s. Melody was dominant part of a song, Orchestration was limited. There were no visuals to distract attention. Singer and the voice were the primary carriers of a song. So the singing had to be perfect and flawless and hence, Music directors were much less open to experimentation with singing and voice.

I say go for Mughal-E-Azam. It is from the 60s and stars one of the most Beautiful actresses in Indian cinema - also referred to as the Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood. Then it has Dilip Kumar and Prithviraj Kapoor - two of the best actors in Bollywood ever with contrasting styles. Dilip Kumar was more in the "Marlon Brando" school of acting, whereas Prithviraj Kapoor was intense in his performances. The sets were gorgeous for its time, and it was probably the most expensive Bollywood movie made for a very long time, probably even now (if adjusted for inflation). If you like Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opuses, then that's where he drew inspiration from.

She started singing at age of 13 as her father who was music director passed away and as eldest daughter of 7 she had to earn a living for all. Started as corus girl and then slowly started getting songs. She saw the Industry grow from pure classical - folk then to modern instruments. She sang for 3 generations of film actors, some from same family. In her 80's she stopped singing much except a movie a year or few songs for her favorit directors. Every music director would have a dream to compose music for her. This movie ran for 20 years in the theatres. Its an iconic movie and the pair became legendary since this and went on to become the best pair and star in many movies together delivering a massive hit each time. They ruled Bollywood. Moreover, this movie was shot in Switzerland a lot and Indians found their new go to location for vacation. This resulted in a boom in Swiss tourism with Indian tourists which is still going on. This resulted in the Swiss government giving the director of the movie the late great Yash Chopra the highest civilian honour as a gesture of appreciation. You need to watch it. This is what made srk SRK. The songs are iconic, the stars are iconic, the dialogues are iconic, the locations are iconic.

You can see from all the comments that she is such a massive part of the Indian psyche. You could check out an old 1960s film called ‘Junglee’, funny love story set in picturesque Kashmir and with an incredibly popular soundtrack, all the songs were gems and sung by Lata and Mohammed Rafi, my favourite of Indian male singers and acknowledged by even Lata as being the best playback singer ever. Their duets were magical. ‘Chandni’ filmed in part in Switzerland is also full of great Lata songs from 1980s. Wishing you continued healing and recovery Waleska 🙏😘
