I almost completely stopped using hair products and oils. My hair is doing great! I wash my hair once a week. I've learned how to finger detangle pretty well (with just water). My hair absorbs water super well (I love how my hair feels with no oil in it). Every once in a while I put rosemary oil on my scalp (to promote hair growth). But the best part is I don't wake up to oily pillows and my face breaking out.

I appreciate the way you described the detox/method/lifestyle (lol) and also that you pointed out why people would subscribe to it or even simply its potential as just a detox while taking what you like from it. There’s been a lot of hostility around this topic so I’m happy whenever people speak about it with an open perspective. I came to through info from stylists from twitter and have not gone through BGC in any real or detailed way so I don’t call myself a detoxer or one who have followed the detox specifically. But, I have taken this information and it has helped me be more mindful about products and ingredients while fitting in with my need for simplicity around my hair. I took to the no raw oils thing almost immediately though haha I saw that and said “bet” then I saw the no leave in thing and said “you don’t know my life” 😂. But my mind have since shifted on that for the most part.

Just with the title I knew who you were talking about haha, I liked the way you talked about this because there are other youtubers that refuse it completely without even trying to understand the method. I don't condemn anyone who doesn't want to try it but deny it completely or share a negative view without properly understand it or try it's kind of disappointing. Wonderful video as usual ❤
@LaToyaEbonyHair
@LaToyaEbonyHair 3 жыл бұрын
I understand where you’re coming from and how disappointing it can be as a viewer. However, as a creator, I understand why someone wouldn’t want to risk it. Many creators have a method that works and have given them great results. It’s kind of a “if it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it” thing. Also, if your livelihood was based off the health of your hair and the ability to try different products with various ingredients, it becomes a larger issue than just trying a “trend”, you know? I completely understand the core to your point of view - don’t speak negatively if you won’t invest the time into understanding or trying. I feel that. I personally view these videos as the creators listing reasons why they don’t want to try it and I move on with my day lol! Everyone is entitled to autonomy over what they will and won’t do with their hair. I appreciate your insight, Mariel!

Shampoo once with a clarifying shampoo, then follow it with a moisturizing shampoo. I use Kinky Curly Come Clean, but there are others. Look for the ingredient c14-16 olefin sulfonate in sulfate free shampoos. Alternatively, you can just use a clarifying shampoo with sulfates.

Black Girl Curls has digital library, "See Some Curls" that goes into detail about the process, to include products and how to apply the products properly to retain moisture. I am in the process of my detox, and so far have noticed a difference in my ability to maintain my twist out with just mousse (The Doux). The hair feels dry, but not dehydrated. My curls have a lighter feel to them and have movement. Excited to watch your journey. I have a hair appointment with a cut it kinky stylist (Love Ley Curls Studio) the end of August. The hair appointment is almost 3 hours, this includes teaching you about your hair, product application for the wash and go, and the cut. They recommend staying the course for a year to really see the hydrated hair we all deserve.

I'm also from South Africa and it's only recently that we started getting more popular natural hair brands but uncle funky isn't sold here from what I've seen 😞 and most of the stylers with botanical ingredients in the first five ingredients are so expensive.

You guys make sure you learn whether your water is soft or hard because it can affect your hair so much By removing the harmful ions in your water supply, soft water changes the dry texture of your hair, making it soft and shiny. Soft water will also save you money spent on shampoos and conditioners, as it binds better with hair products to create a thicker and richer lather. So basically you can maintain moisture. Hard water can cause the dryness in your hair That's because hard water contains a buildup of minerals, such as calcium and magnesium. This produces a film on the hair, making it difficult for moisture to penetrate. As a result, the hair is left dry and prone to breakage. Leave these issues unresolved and it could even lead to hair loss. So you might want a Filter if your water is drying out your hair I noticed that when I go to places where there is hard water oils and water and grease and creams dry my hair out but when I come back to where we live (we have soft water) my hair feels moisturized with water and oils and creams. So it might just be hard water and not the oils

Idk I can't wait to see your results but my hair needs more moisture than those products you showed. Maybe there are others but my hair starts to loc after I wash my hair. It'll clump and then the frizzy roots decides it wants in on the action...its a whole mess. 🤔 so this may not be for me.

From what I’ve read, there’s definitely a learning curve, but it’s also possible this method may not be for you. I think if you’re curious it might be worth giving it at least 30 days.

That’s a common concern for high porosity naturals…I’ve even heard that having high porosity isn’t normal - that it happens over time…😩 so many new ideologies coming out. I don’t even know! Lol

Don’t be scared to adjust things as it makes sense for you. I have very thick and very high density hair almost to my waist and I’m tired of washing/detangling taking an hour… I’m going to start using my diy prepoo the day before to cut the wash time under 30 minutes 😊

Other youtubers who have tried this make it seem like this is a forever thing, a complete switch. Have not heard anyone call this a detox which is why I haven’t even wanted to give it any serious consideration. I appreciate your perspective and clarification.

I think it's meant to be both - detox and switch. I believe those of us who want to continue using oils and butters in our routine can benefit from trying this method as a detox. If you end up loving the results, you can continue. It's how I approach just about anything I do. I don't believe in hard and fast rules, just following what works for you. 😊

Personally I get where this is coming from however I keep thinking about wen they said no grease years ago mind u our mothers and grandmothers used grease on our hair n our hair flourished so it’s hard to believe we shouldn’t use oils in butters at all…now I do believe they have a point about not using oils on our hair because water and oils don’t mix so it can prevent moisture from getting in which is y I haven’t used the LOC or LCO method in a long time n I normally just oil my scalp n my hair has flourished but at the same time doing wat works for u n ur hair is key n I don’t think there’s anything wrong with detoxing ur hair

@@tmcurly Update: I tried it and it worked! Im shook! ive never seen my coils so defined and not a matted mess. I also used the diffuser attachment for the first time. My hair typically clumps after shampoo but gets fluffy after detangling with conditioner. This time I detangled first then washed and conditioned in twists.

I hope those products are by black owned businesses otherwise not good you advertising them at all. We MUST empower our own people when only WE are using such products otherwise ignorance continues to reign. More importantly, what you are missing is the type of oils black 4C hair should use (and other hair types) and that is "humectant" oils. All oils are not equal and some if not a huge amount will just sit on the hair's outer shaft and not absorb. However, humectant oils WILL absorb into the hair and hold moisture or moisturise. Also, how much of that humectant oil you apply would depend on how dry and brittle your hair is, so that means some people may need to apply more than others until the hair texture has softened and feels better. Also a good humectant hair cream would be good. As long as it's working for your hair and you are not spending hours on your hair every time then you've cracked it. See Shanique Butyn's black 4C hair on KZbin. She and a few alike will amase you, astonish you and surprise you. She is THE wow factor and a few others of sporting great looking black 4C hair. Another topic is wigs. If you have to keep wearing wigs, hiding your natural hair then what's the point of having nice hair!! I'm growing my hair inspired by a few and I'll be damned if I'm going back to wearing wigs or extensions cos that just plays to never able to sport your own natural hair 24/7 everyday for life. Little maintenance is key and you can put your hair in some lovely maintained hair styles rather than the stereotypical boring hair styles and then on the days you can show it off to the world again with little maintenance. But the world should, needs to see that black women can and do have gorgeous hair. C'mon now get the knowledge and watch the right videos and SHARE!!

This is very disturbing. Because a lot of the girls out there can't buy these products. I am thinking of my sisters in Africa for example. But what they have is their butter and oils to take care of their hair. And now you have this method everywhere in KZbin. What are they suppose to do ? I wish they could have show how we can incorporate oils and butter for better results rather than just saying not to use them.

i think calling it “disturbing” is a stretch. nobody is really forcing people to do it, lol. like you said, it’s just another method. people can still use their butters and oils if they want to.
