My dad was not big on t.v. no t.v. in our house til after dinner, usually only an hour a night, on an old b/w set from Rink's, but he absolutely adored Carol Burnett, said she " wasn't like the rest of Hollywood flakes, she was a good woman". I could put most everything he said aloud in 20 years on an hour long tape, minus while he was watching this show. He'd laugh, it was great. Sounds like I grew up in the 40s, but, I was born in 68. Just grew up on an old farm, with a simple family, that believed in simple life. The Carol Burnett Show was a big part of it in the evenings.

when I watched the „Carol Burnett Show“ as a boy, the „Eunice“ skits were my favorite. In time I began to see that there was a tragic undercurrent running throughout these skits. Carol Burnett said herself „that humor comes from a place of pain“. There was an episode once that I watched together with my mother and at the conclusion we both agreed the story was so real and pathetic that it was not funny anymore. They had gone over a delicate line from farce to pathos. It was pure genius, both the writing and of course Carol‘s heartfelt performance.

We were allowed to stay up later to watch this show when I was a kid. We had to be ready for bed so right after we hit the sack. The Family, Mr Tudball and Mrs Wiggins, and Tim Conway making the cast crack up on the skits he was in were the high lights of the show. It is amazing that they only had less than a week to learn all the skits, the musical numbers and productions and execute it in front of a live audience. Great acting and great comedy.

I know everyone loves Lucy, HOWEVER, Carol Burnett had the ability to play any kind of role & make it all appear effortless. She is so incredibly talented. Lucy was rather silly & relied on very simple minded plots. Carol was incredible playing any kind of character & even recreating famous movie characters. Dimwitted, sexy, serious or outrageous, she did it all so well. Just a look or the tone of her voice could make you laugh. I just want her to get all the accolades she deserves.
