As a Latvian, I am very happy about the victory of the young aspirants. Even after this victory, we know very well that Canada is much stronger. The Latvian junior national team is the youngest among all national teams in this tournament. For these guys, getting to this tournament in Canada means the biggest chance in their life to see an NHL-level arena with 17-18,000 spectators. For many of these guys, this tournament means the biggest chance in their life to get a professional contract - in Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, Czech Republic - maybe even in the AHL (some dream of the NHL someday). The Latvian guys were 200% ready for this tournament and game. What about Canada? The largest hockey team in the world - practically all of them have great opportunities to play in the NHL in the near or distant future. Maybe they didn't play with such dedication and passion as they should, because the opposite is Latvia (by the way, we also know how to play hockey). 57 shots on goal for the Latvian national team? Yes, but the Latvians also understood and expected that, but what surprises me is that Canada allowed 22 shots on goal, which raises the question of what is happening with Canada's defense? Yes, I understand that 22 shots in hockey is nothing special, but it was not done by Sweden, or the USA, but by Latvia against Canada!

Canada under estimated their opponent -- always a fatal mistake. The Latvian goaltender was AMAZING.

@@vstrom9586 If you look at the replay of the game, you can see that the Canadians control the puck, but in reality the puck is circling around the perimeter of the Latvian defensive zone and shots are made at the goal, which the Latvian goalkeeper Feldbergs simply catches, because the shots are clearly visible. The Canadian players skate quickly and seem to give the feeling that they are trying to escalate the game, but the Latvians are tactically correct in their zone in the right places, which does not make the Latvian players panic and lose their heads. The Canadians had many opportunities to score goals, but often the players play selfishly, wanting to be the heroes of the game, where they just need to give a pass to the free player - instead, they shoot at the Latvian goalkeeper! In short - the Canadians played without imagination.

Canada didn't take their best players, that being said this is the biggest upset in tournament history and the second time Latvia has shocked the hockey world by playing with a ton of heart. As a Canadian I love watching Latvia play

As a Canadian I want to congratulate the Latvian team. Latvia is not (yet) a hockey power but it looks like they must have a good development program and good coaching for their young guys. They stuck to their game plan in a very disciplined manner. Kudos.

Latvia played a strong, very disciplined defensive game. Canada's team is loaded with elite talent, Latvia with hard working grinders. Sometimes, thank goodness, the grinders win. I am one Canadian who salutes them.

As a Canadian, it was cool to see. Latvia is always an underdog but they play with heart and passion. Canada played pretty poorly, took bad penalties and got punished. It's worth noting that while they got a lot of shots, not many of them were very dangerous.

54 saves by The Latvian goalie Feldberg was a great performance. Had to come up big plenty and got a few lucky puck bounces, but stood tall. Sadly the Canadians lost Schaffer for 2 months or so with a broken collarbone

So true. It's a costly sport, but we love it to death. Usually paid by wealthy families who see their kids as potential prospects. Who knows where we would be if our government had programs for this similar to the ones in Denmark and Finland.

With Russian and Canadian coaches, Chinese boys and girls are doing high tech, Conner Bedard style training. It'll take 20 more years, if the world isn't destroyed by the USA's military aggression in the meantime. Even North Korea has organized youth hockey.

What nonsense, no one is humiliating anyone!. Latvian hockey teams, regardless of juniors or adults, should never, ever be underestimated - they can beat any opponent (they especially like to beat the strongest teams) or lose (I admit it as a Latvian) if the game doesn't go their way. They are absolutely unpredictable, which is what makes sports interesting.
