I am Latvian, and I live in countryside, and my neighbors, probably friends of theirs, flew drone over my property. Didn’t see it, but heard, but what the hell - I didn’t bother. Having just a little bit of fun. Sure, maybe situation on other side of Latvia, closer to Russia, is different due to Russia, but don’t think so. Latvians sometime can be a prick and be overprotective. They won’t tell directly something to you, but through authorities, because many Latvians are just too shy to speak up. That what it is, and there is no cure for that. You did the best thing to respect the police work, and they respect you back. And thanks for sharing great shots from the birds eye, turns out that we don’t have to travel far far away for great shots.

I've also had Karens at work. I've been told we can't work during day, can't work during early mornings, can't work in weekends. It's rare but happens and unless you fly around someone's windows or scare their livestock, etc be a nuisance, Noone will care and I wouldn't have imagined anyone calling cops for that.

May motorcycle Gods be nice to THÖ HONDA. RIDE SAFE.

Last week a drone was flying over my house making so much noise. I thought I was going to be attacked by a swarm of killer bees :-D. When I saw what it was I was in two minds because I love drone photography and really appreciate all of the footage, but at the same time it felt like an invasion of my privacy. In the end I just hoped the pilot got some nice shots of the town, so all was good. It's good that the police investigated in a reasonable manner and the respect for human dignity was mutual. I've never seen anything of the Latvian countryside so thanks for taking us along!

Anywhere in Europe it will be like that. People don't fear cops and cops don't fear people. Make sure not to mix anxiety and fear. If I were to get stopped I'd think back every second to point of purchasing the car if everything is in order, if I got my papers and whatever, that's anxiety,but there wouldn't be any fear.

Hi Marc. I am glad that you featured the legalities of drone flying regarding your contact with local police. It is true that you have to follow I.C.A.O. rules regarding this aspect of aeronautical licensing. Most regular peace officers are truly unaware of legal rights in drone flying. They are more concerned with the privacy rights of citizens. I have various certification for many different interests I am involved in in Canada. Your average citizen and police are not fully educated or informed. It was important that you asserted your rights based on your qualifications. 👍
@DageLV11 ай бұрын
I'd be willing to bet that's the first time cops have engaged in that discussion with anyone. Drone flying isn't an issue so obviously cops won't know everything about everything, even if it's not actual. And using the assert rights imo is wrong wording, it doesn't sound like the cops are saying he is wrong, he is just informing, not asserting.

I would think at this time with the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the history of Soviet rule in Latvia the authorities in Latvia may be a bit curious about who is using a drone in the country and for what purposes. People should experience what it's like to be under constant surveillance by an authoritarian state for decades. Just be respectful and next time set up your drone shots so the drone doesn't fly close to peoples homes especially in the country where people may be more acutely sensitive to sounds unlike urban dwellers who are surrounded by a wall of sound much like being near a waterfall.
