Now I know, I have to plan accordingly! No charging at Petrol Stations ⛽️ This is gonna be a big challenge travelling through Tibet and China on electric motorcycle, especially in a group with petrol bikes! I can do it!⚡️ going up over 5000 and we even going to see the Everest at end, at least that’s what we thought…

It is much more difficult to build roads here than in the United States. First of all, the altitude here is mostly over 4,000 meters, and many places are over 5,000 meters. It is generally believed that altitudes over 4,000 meters are not suitable for human life. The average person's blood oxygen saturation is good at 70, while our blood oxygen saturation in the plains generally needs to reach 95. Second, the foundation is all frozen soil in winter, which will melt in summer and the roadbed will settle, so the roadbed needs special treatment. Third, even in summer, the temperature difference between day and night in Tibet is very large, and the asphalt road surface is easy to crack, which requires strict maintenance.
@wokaka11
@wokaka11 9 күн бұрын
The area is the junction of the Indian Ocean Plate and the Eurasian Continental Plate. The crustal movement is very active. The roadbed is constantly deforming. Rockfalls are frequent around mountain roads. Many sections require 24-hour uninterrupted maintenance. Road maintenance personnel live in simple houses on the roadside.

Seems like everyone had forgotten that static electricity spark when exchanging current can easily ignite gas fume/steam at a Gas Station, and no electronic devices allowed at gas station is an International Safety Rule... That is why often you will see the "No Cellphone" signs around gas station, so don't blame the station for refuse to allow you recharging your heavy bikes onsite...

@@MarcTravels Short comment to you: you travelled around the world so you are smart enough to know the unspoken rule: just do what the locals do. Unless the locals try to con/scam you-that is another story, and you look smart enough to fall into that easily. Long form: this is like using electronics on airplanes. There is no conclusion whether it’s 100% safe or not. One agency can come in and say “this looks pretty safe to me”, and another can say “this is non-negligible risk”. But we all know it boils down to money right? If your bike hypothetically caught fire and burnt down the whole station, what is the likelihood of you paying for full restoration?

Pay attention to the amperage values of extension cords, inverters. also pay attention to the amperage value of the socket you plug in. also pay attention to the thickness of the cables of the socket you plug in. Cable wire diameter is important according to amperage. It is written on the cable. The ampere rating or wire diameter is written. If you do not pay attention to these, a fire may occur. Or the fuse may blow. Especially when buying an adapter, converter, buy it by looking at the Ampere value on it. You don't want your motorcycle to burn. One cable also provides enough current for only one motorcycle. It's usually 16 amps. It varies from country to country. If 2 electric vehicles are connected, the fuse will blow because it will draw higher current. If it is a fake cable, there will be a fire.

Dont' laugh, but I had a tire go off a rim out in the middle of nowhere and same issue with portable compressor that couldn't reinflate. I remembered the old "starter fluid" trick, but never had any starter fluid on me. So I lay the tire on it's side, drizzled some gasoline inside the tire and ignited it. The rapidly expanding hot gases "popped" the tire straight back into the rim and the portable compressor could pump in the rest of the way. I'm certainly not recommending this, but it did work for me in a truly emergency situation.

Incredible views of a forbidden country for me. I really enjoy it. I think some friends have been on the other side of the lake you passed. Maybe. Good catch on the flying camera. Like a high speed hockey puck down the road. Really progressed in the quality of the roads. My friends traveled there in 1990 and things were much different. Two of eight never made it. Taken out in traffic. All good Marc from east Kentucky USA. Next time

I don’t want to go to Everest base camp anymore, too popular and of course as in this episode you might not actually see Everest due to poor visibility weather. I ride to Shangri la in June from Thailand. Should be fun. It’s a group ride with basically the same bunch of guys as last few years.

Marc, when trying to air up a tire that is no longer on the rim, you can try using a ratchet strap to encircle the tire (around the outside), be sure it’s right on the middle all the way around, then as you tighten the ratchet strap the tire bead should expand outward, giving you a better chance of popping it back on the rim. Doesn’t always work, but worth trying when you’re not near a tire-shop. Hope this helps. PS - sorry your camera got ran over, but that clip from it was kind of cool…lol, thanks for putting it in the vlog. Rich in California.

I find interesting that while your bike was charging. The current doesn't match with the power. China runs a 220V power grid so 22A current should be providing 4.8KW power instead of 2.3KW

A typical chinese electric bike you will see a lot of in the bigger cities and towns run off lead acid batteries and are extremely cheap (starting from 2-3k RMB for a new one), those things are actual fire hazards when paired with dodgy extension boards, and their charging got limited/banned after a few severe accidents indoors and in fire hazard locations. You shouldn't face the problem charging with actual EV chargers at fuel stations.

It’s not bus or bike what you take to Everest. Just walk or trek to Himalayas it’s nature you should feel what it feels. Even Nepal is poor but if you travel it like what it has you will see and feel may mesmerize you for sure. Don’t disappoint yourself and your viewer show them what you really see and feel and enjoy what you get unexpectedly
