@@TransparentEclipse Honestly, I don't even think you can call it filler simply because three of the stories actually had some sort of impact. First one being the Tale of Iroh, because it gave a little more info on his backstory which makes his behaviour a lot more comprehensible for the viewer. This episode has been bashed enough (I do agree with a lot of the complaints) There is some merit to this episode for example; -demonstrating the immaturity of the child/teenaged characters, - demonstrating the brother/sister relationship between Katara and Sokka, - We get to see how diverse the world and specifically the Earth Kingdom is (the two tribes have pretty cool aesthetic) - We get to see how truth changes overtime and how different sides have different accounts of what happened - The setting of the Great Divide is a cool setting and expands the world and the legend about the spirits as some great mythology/lore - demonstrating Aang’s journey to not only defeat the Firelord but also to bring about peace amongst all people - to demonstrate how the war has effected people and caused them to have to uproot and find new lives I have heard that this episode was made to be constantly re-aired because it doesn’t have much if any real effect on the rest of the show But still I have so much nostalgia for this episode

A lot of people say this is the weakest episode of the series. It might be, but I still think it's better than people give it credit for. I love the detail that Aang lied to those people about their history to end the conflict. What he did was clearly unethical, but did he do more good than harm? I would say not. It is likely that some day, someone will find written evidence that Aang lied, when they happens, the peace he made will unravel quickly. I'm pretty sure the result would be worse than if he hadn't told those particular lies. But the point is, you can argue about the ethics off what Aang did, and it would be a pretty interesting conversation, which makes the episode more than worth watching. The fact that they showed different sides of the story, complete with the biases of those telling the story without telling you who was telling the truth is a reference to a Kurosawa movie. The next episode The Storm is when they series starts to get really good.

This episode had a potential to show something else that is only really hinted at with the ending. We like to think of air as the element of peace and pacifism (tell that to a tornado), and that's how the show portrays them. They don't eat meat, they don't attack, they don't lie, etc. Being Earth's opposite, who would have the most black-and-white morality, they wouldn't believe in moral absolutes. And with their minds more on the big picture than all the tiny specifics, it's easy to see how an airbender would have little issue lying for the sake of a bigger goal. And I feel like nobody would be better experts of the white-lie like airs.

There are only 2 filler episodes in this entire show. This episode is one of them simply because it adds nothing to the story. The other one doesn’t add really anything but the end of it sets up the next episode or has something that ties back in later. Every other episode in this show is import to the story or it adds to it. That’s one of the things I love about this show.

I know that a lot of people hate this episode for some reason, but I honestly think that even the pirate episode was more useless than this one. This episode is widely considered the worst episode of the show - which, if anything, shows just how high a standard the show set itself. This episode isn't BAD, at worst it's kinda middling. The message is blatant and not very deep, the story doesn't do much to the rest of the show... It's probably best described as "eminently skippable." Most people who are rewatching the show don't rewatch this one. The fact that you enjoyed it as much as you did should tell you how much you'll love the rest of the show!

@KaiLucasZachary Жыл бұрын
@@Matthew_BKG Okay, but someone watching the show doesn’t need a “recap” episode before the finale. In the fortune teller episode, all that happens is Katara and Aang obsessing over irrelevant things. I do kinda like the final message that we choose our own destinies, but it took 15 minutes too long to get to that point. In the episode about the “great divide”… Aang actually uses real-life applicable lessons throughout the episode. He starts to realize that there are always going to be opposing sides that all have valid opinions, and that sometimes a small lie about things in the past can help mend things in the future. Overall, the episode has a much greater message than anything in the fortune teller episode or the lame “recap” episode that wasn’t needed at all.
