I grew up there back in the 60's the park you in was a trailer park the only way across the river boat, walk when the water was low and drive up over the dam. No cansio where,just the power plant that Mr Laughlin owe no power plant there now. Bulkhead city is where I live. I loved it that and still do .My grandfather brought property from Mr Laughlin. At big bend was where the pionree would cross the river heading to calif. You can still see the tracks that cross the hill. Just a little history.

Memories. We used to do a night trip up to Laughlin from Lake Havasu during our 4 day weekend ski trips. Good times! Take the Ferry over to the Riverside Casino from Bullhead City. I remember the nights when it felt like you were getting hit by a blast furnace when you stepped out of your car. The desert. You either love it or hate it. I loved it. Especially the mornings when I'd sit outside on the condo patio with a fresh cup of coffee and watch the sunrise. Can't beat it. Keep the videos coming Russ. Much appreciated.

From the Nevada side, below the dam, you can hike/bike (only) to the top of the dam, walk across it and get a great view of Lk. Mohave. Back where you turned out, you can also walk along the Colorado River to the reach Davis dam, so that gives you two hikes/rides to the dam.

That Big Bend State Park campground is really nice. Check it out the next time you're in the area. They have boat launch facilities and the whole park is paved and landscaped. I live in Nevada and they have a great deal for seniors. A $30 annual pass lets you camp in all the state parks. $10 extra for hookups. The major parks like Big Bend, Valley of Fire, Cathedral Gorge, and the ones on the east side near Pioche all have plumbed and heated shower areas, dump stations, and lots of hiking trails. I visited most of them on my pass this summer.

Hi Russ! I was coming to Laughlin during my trucking days (1977-2015) before the bridge from Bullhead City to Laughlin was ever built. I think at that time there was only like 3 or 4 casinos. We’d park our big trucks and trailers on the Bullhead City side of the river and ride the boats across the Colorado to gamble…and, the boat rides we’re free back then too. Things on both sides of the river have sure changed a lot since my first visit here around 1992! I am surprised that there is so much to do in Laughlin now besides just gambling. I’ll be revisiting soon when I go full time in ‘my’ Pleasureway Lexor! Thanks for sharing! ~Jim from TOTALLY RELAXED!~

*Things look considerably different from '95 when I left and became a faceless, nameless wanderer of the streets of Las Vegas...the place I loved that cares nothing for me since 1963* ___________ ( *It's quite something how it's possible to convince yourself something is 'True' because you want it to be true despite the fact that 'it's all you' and nothing more than that* ) ___________ *I live on the Ohio River now for almost a third of my life and still dream of 'Home' of my beloved Nevada and the beauty of the silent desert and the mountains and most of all of the woman I love and left her behind me because she could not bring herself to tell me "Stay" and the strength of that love failed me and her as well* ( *It's a hard thing to know "You're not good enough for her and her boy"* ) ___________ *'Harrahs' looks as good as I remember from working there for most of 5-years...it was good to stand at the walkway overlooking the Colorado and think "There have been Kings who ruled Empires that never saw what is in front of me right now in the soft light just moments from sunrise"*

Just across and up slightly (north) from the Riverside is the Laughlin visitors center. You can park there and right behind it, the trail starts (if you are staying in any of the Casinos). You walk across the walkway that Russ drove under a couple of times and then the trail takes you up along the river to the park and you can continue up to walk across Davis Dam. There are also some other trails that go up toward the horse parking area Russ drove by and then they turn and climb some to a viewpoint that is quite a bit higher overlooking the river, very nice view. Basically, if you start down by the Riverside, there are 5-7 miles or trails north of there up to the dam and around the area. It is very pretty, but gets super hot, you definitely want to talk the walk in the morning. I don't think you can tour the dam unfortunately.
@jaysantos5363 жыл бұрын
Nobody parks up there because their cars always get broken into as the thieves watch them walk across the bridge around the corner and follow them until they are at least 10 minutes away and then bust in. It was a terrible idea to allow parking there.
