THE House of Commons erupted in laughter this afternoon as government minister Michael Ellis was ridiculed by the opposition over a new chief of staff appointment.
Mr Barclay is already the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and MP for North East Cambridgeshire, raising concerns he will not be able to do the three jobs effectively.
The Labour party raised an urgent question on the appointment in the Commons on Monday, only for the Cabinet Office minister Michael Ellis to appear instead.
MPs were told Boris Johnson’s changes to his Downing Street operation will bring “renewed discipline and focus” to the Government’s agenda amidst the party-gate scandal.

Levelling Up, means take as much as you can from the poorer people of this country, then give back a fraction of what you have taken. Our Parliament is no longer functioning because it has ceased to make this Government accountable for its actions. Boris Johnson is continuously allowed to lie, and treat Parliament with contempt, with no apparent response from the Speaker of the House. Now all the Tories are allowed to do the same.

@dansegelov305 2 жыл бұрын
@@patricklee6206 . Boris ATTENDED many of the parties. He is not under pressure to resign because a few interns had half a bottle of red while he was away on holiday! He was at the parties, including at least one well-attended party in his private residence. And then he repeatedly lied to parliament and the people about it. The CPS didn't fail to prosecute Savile. The police didn't bring any charges against him because all they had was vague allegation and rumours. There was never any chance of getting a guilty verdict based on the evidence of the time. It is the Police's job to collect and assemble evidence and then pass it to the CPS. There was no available evidence at the time so the CPS was barely involved. None of this got within a mile of Starmer's desk! Maybe you could direct your outrage towards the Tory party (to which Savile was a big donor,) and especially Thatcher for pressuring the police to leave him alone for years and for nominating him for a knighthood four times!
@patricklee6206
@patricklee6206 2 жыл бұрын
@@dansegelov305 I never said that he was any where near the Saville case nor the Rochdale or Rotherham grooming gangs on his watch but the CPS have the ultimate veto on whether a case goes to court. As DPP he was ultimately responsible in fact he even said so himself. Boris apparently was in attendance at about 4 events but is blamed for all that took place in or out of No10 even though with 2 of them he was 40 miles away. But because he is in charge the blame must ultimately rest with him and on several occasions he has apologised and taken responsibility . That doesn't mean that he can't blame the attendees of these events ,Tories , Civil Servants and advisors. With regards to the Tory party and their association with Savile I agree in hindsight it was not good the difference is that there were 2 complaints against him in Kier's time as DPP. I also find it unlikely that the complaints about such a high profile celebrity would not have been brought to his attention.
@dansegelov305
@dansegelov305 2 жыл бұрын
@@patricklee6206 . OK, one more time for the hard of hearing. Firstly, the police investigate the allegations. If they find significant evidence they charge the suspect with a crime. At that point a CPS agent examines the case and it's evidence and decides whether or not there is sufficient proof to expect a guilty verdict at trial. If not, it is passed back to the police to either investigate further or drop the charge. In Savile's case, he was never charged. Which means that the only real involvement by the CPS was ensuring chain of custody of evidence. Starmer wasn't involved because there was nothing to be involved in. The case never got as far as formal charges! The entire case was wholly in police hands. It never reached the CPS for potential prosecution.

@@royboy565 Your sentiment is why politics is such a failure. It isn't a Tory problem. If you think any other party would do a better job you haven't lived very long. The problem is that the kind of person who enters politics is typically not the kind you'd want making decisions on your behalf. The core of the problem is that our culture is ok with politicians having the power to do as they please, so much so we have no written constitution, so in essence any laws passed *is* the constitution. We have no personal responsibility and we allowed all this to happen. Treating politics like football only makes it worse.

Most western governments are like this, and the British one especially. Parliament is just a talking shop where they debate things and that's it. No action. Just hot air. These people do to much waffling, and basically nothing is achieved, the home secretary is a prime example: lovely speeches, and sound bites for tomorrows headlines....but still no solution to people landing on our beaches. The french waffle about fishing licences, but have not got the brains to close, and man their borders. Instead of actually doing something positive: MPs in parliament want to try and insult the opposition.....these people should be paid by commission, what they actually acheive.....certainly the ministers should. In an ideal world, Priti Patel would be put on the minimum wage, untill she sorted the beach problem. Boris should have his wages docked, untill he can dress himself, and use a comb. Over the last decade or so: we have people sleeping in doorways, people using food banks.....how on earth has this come about. I saw a post the other day by a councillor saying he was donating food to food banks.....and that is good. But no one seems to ask why these places are even needed in this day and age.

Levelling up is something that Boris should apply to himself. He should stop lying, enrole in a course that deals with integrity, morality and ethics - which he would of course fail miserably!! Boris is a disgrace and should disappear back under the stone from which he came!!! Levelling up is just a catchphrase that means nothing relating to the actions so far taken!!
