Neil Sedaka sings " LAUGHTER IN THE RAIN "
Performed live in 1974 (The Midnight Special)
________________________________________
Neil Sedaka fans believe it's high time for Neil to get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.
As the prolific and versatile author of more than 1,000 songs, the accolades showered on Neil Sedaka have been numerous. Among the honours he has received, Sedaka has been inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame, has had a street named after him in his hometown of Brooklyn, and was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. With a career spanning six decades, a rare feat in the entertainment world, Sedaka never ceases to amaze.
The history of Rock & Roll is simply unimaginable without Neil Sedaka's contributions. Neil is a Rock & Roll pioneer. In concerts, he talks about Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Carole King, Paul Simon and others, and how he's proud to be part of their history.
You don't have to count Neil Sedaka's gold records worldwide to know what his name means in the world of Rock & Roll. His songs are so well-known and loved, it's hard to believe there was a time we didn't hear them. Neil Sedaka is one of those pioneers of Rock & Roll, who's still in the business, performing his songs he and others have made famous for more than five decades.
Many international artists - including several already inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame - have covered his songs: Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, Tony Christie, American Idol Winner Clay Aiken, Renee Olstead, Clyde McPhatter, The Carpenters, Andy Williams, Bette Midler, Frank Sinatra, The Captain & Tenille, Connie Francis, Wanda Jackson, Cher, Gloria Estefan, Bobby Vee, The Monkees, Davy Jones, Dee Dee Sharp, The Fifth Dimension, Franki Valli, Helen Shapiro, John Travolta, LaVern Baker, Lesley Gore, Mandy Moore, Neil Diamond, David Cassidy, The Partridge Family, Petula Clark, Randy Crawford, Roy Hamilton, Sheryl Crowe, Sissel Kyrkjebø, The Blue Diamonds, Bobby Sherman, Shirley Bassey, Helen Schneider, Peggy Lee, José Feliciano, Little Anthony & The Imperials, Shelley Fabares, Maria Muldaur, Englebert Humperdinck, Barbi Benton, Bobby Darin, The Clovers, Clay Aiken, Jimmy Clanton, The Marbles, Little Eva, Carole King, Helen Reddy, Nancy Wilson, Mac & Katie Kissoon, David Soul, Agneta Fältskog, ABBA, The Cookies, The Globetrotters, Norman Fox & The Rob Roys, The Tokens, The Chiffons, Rita Coolidge, Emile Ford & The Checkmates, Donny Osmond, Floyd Cramer, Earl Klugh, Tracey Ullman, Ray Conniff, James Last, Caterina Valente, Nino Tempo & April Stevens, Jimmy Justice & The Exchequers, Al Martino, Dinah Washington, Johnny Mathis, Quinn Lemley, Waylon Jennings, Gunther Neefs, Lisa Del Bo, and many more... Besides all being popular entertainers, they've all recorded songs written by the living legend Brill Building songwriter Neil Sedaka.
Neil Sedaka has collaborated with many famous names, who're also famous in the world of Rock and Roll, to mention a few: Elton John, King Curtis, Jim Horn, Howard Greenfield, Philip Cody, Carole Bayer Sager, Eddie Grossman, Stan Applebaum, Joe René, Don Kirshner, Lee Holdridge, 10 CC (Eric Stewart, Graham Gouldman, Lol Creme, Kevin Godley), Leland Sklar, Russ Kunkel, Artie Butler, Nigel Olsson, Steve Cropper, George Martin (The Beatles producer), Dan Hartman, Ron Dante (The Archies), Brian Gari, John Farrar (The Shadows), Gary U.S. Bonds, Brian Derek, Mary Wilson, Ashford & Simpson, Edgar Winter, Rick Derringer, and many more! In fact, Neil Sedaka is also part of their history...
A few hits (we don't mention hem all): Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, Laughter In The Rain, Bad Blood, Oh! Carol, Stairway To Heaven, Love Will Keep Us Together, The Immigrant, That's When The Music Takes Me, Calendar Girl, I Go Ape, Breaking Up Is Hard To Do (slow version), Standing On The Inside, Solitaire, A Little Lovin', Stupid Cupid, Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen, The Queen Of 1964, Shoud've Never Let You Go, The Hungry Years, Love In The Shadows, Steppin' Out, Is This The Way To Amarillo, One Way Ticket ...

I also grew up in the 1970s. I was 10 in 1973, we lived through the BEST decade EVER for music. We Had Pop Glam Rock Punk etc etc. We were so lucky. Much better than the music around today. These songs will be played for years to come. Music today will be forgotten next week but our music will live on and on.

You where happy and free to live in a free world. I was in the comunism, behind the iron curtain. We where starving. I did not know about "Live Aid" until recently when I saw the movie about Queen. But YES, despite the fact my music was recorded from illegal broadcast stations (VOA and Freedom Europe) on tapes, it was the best time for music.❤ Now I am equally happy that I can browse my streaming service, read the lyrics and find out about my dearest songs and musicians. And from time to time I DJ some oldies party where everyone come to hear those songs from golden music years.

My KZbin Music playlist is pretty much all songs from 1966 to the mid-1980s with mostly songs from the 1970s. Late Gen Xer, yet my parents steered me into what they listened to back when they went to school, or in my Dad's case, the Army (including a tour in South Vietnam in 1970-1971).

The 70s were the 70s because of the 60s. American society had gone through the seismic social shifts of Vietnam,Civil Rights, and student protests. The upheaval carried over into the 70s with the fall of Saigon and Watergate. By 1975,when this song was released,America just wanted to take a break and feel good about itself. It was a time to enjoy peace and greater personal freedom.

One of the best comebacks in music history. Sedaka was mostly forgotten as a hitmaker and singer for a decade before this release although notable people did cover his songs. A hasbeen at 26 and a number one artist in the 70’s. It’s never too late and you’re never too old. Just ask Tina Turner!

I won't stop saying this until it happens; industry insiders need to be scouting for musicians that are expressly attempting to measure up to musicians like Neil Sedaka. This reminds me so much of the June weekend in 1979 when my special lady at the time and I spent an unforgettable weekend in Toronto. I was done high school and heading out west to British Columbia to take work with my uncles' construction company and she had a year to go. It was doubtful we'd get back together due to moving on in our lives, so we decided to celebrate our high school romance with a long weekend in the city. The Friday we arrived, we checked in to the Chelsea Inn downtown Toronto, and headed out in the pouring rain to walk along harbourfront. We walked hand in hand, sometimes stopping under an awning or tree just to hug, kiss, and savor the moments. It's a time I will never forget. We stayed close friends, yet drifted apart when we both found other lovers. It was a beautiful weekend...four days later we said goodbye through the window of the train I was taking to the Toronto airport...

This was the kind of stuff I was exposed to throughout the 70s as a kid when my parents were playing stuff on the turntable. Sedaka, Captain and Tenille, Paul Simon, and then in 1979 my father brought home The Wall album by Pink Floyd and my life changed forever.

The house rule (when I was a little-bitty kid) was that if I could stay awake on my own, I could watch "The Midnight Special" with my dad.😊 I'm so glad that I got to see the acts that you mentioned. I will also never forget when he brought home "The Wall". I was a little older and when he was at work, I would blast it on his " sound system" . Those were the days! Lol

One of the best singers / songwriters of all time...and still singing to this day! HEY!...here's a FUN FACT! He went to school with Carly Simon and they both became great singers and songwriters! I also read somewhere that they dated when they were in high school and always remained friends.

Man, Neil could wail. Great voice. Spot on, he and the band sound great live. I think Neil, Paul Anka, Frankie Valli, even Wayne Newton to a degree, have always gotten crap that wasn't deserved. They are an important part of the history of American music.

A huge star between 1959 and 1964. The arrival of The Beatles and their fellow British invaders meant dry lean years for artists like Neil Sedaka. He made a spectacular comeback in the early 70s with two marvellous albums made and recorded in England and become even more successful heading back to America in 1974 with charttoppers like Bad Blood and Laughter In The Rain. One of THE finest singer/songwriters ever!
