I like these smaller scale podcasts where the guys can just spew random anecdotes without stressing about it making sense in the context of a normal conversation. The guests are good for promotional events and variation, but the bread and butter really is just hearing the guys yap.

I just learnt about the cloth mother experiment - its about developmental psychology and the psychological bond between baby and mother - they wanted to see the impacts of connection with the mother after birth, if it has any impacts. This is one of the reasons why today they immediately let the mother hold the baby straight after birth because it does have psychological impacts, prior to this they didnt think there were any. The experiment had a wired mother that had a bottle and a clothed mother that resembled the mother without a bottle, they assumed the baby would just go where the food was but they were shocked to find that the babies always clinged to the cloth mother, they would only leave to get food when needed and return or drink from the wired mother while clinging to the cloth mother. All of those monkeys became extremely disfunctional as a result of this study and interestingly the ones that survived to have their own kids did not know how to parent correctly and required intervention otherwise their babies would have died. Yes this is unethical but tbh they didnt realise until they did this study that it actually had any negative impacts, unfortunately with psychology being a new science a lot of it really is trial and error and theyre constantly having to adjust the parameters with all the new things we've learnt. Side note: my favourite expieriment ive learned about since starting my degree is the Milgram shock experiment, i like this experiment because its a great example of the power of psychology and how we often dont realise psychological aspects until we actually realise it. So this experiment was brought about because of a trial for a Nazi - they asked him why he did the horrible things he did and he responded, i did it because i was told to. Everyone balked and said he was full of it and a lot of the public claimed that no matter how much authority there was or the consequences they would not do the horrible things he did. So Milgram decided to perform an experiment and pulled average americans off the street to help him out with it, long story short he easily proved that people will go to extreme lengths regardless of their ethical or moral standing when being instructed by someone of perceived authority. and to tie this back into the podcast, i think this is why Sam gets away with a lot of naughty or bossy behaviours, because his confidence comes across as a kind of authority that people are not used to and will often just comply, i picked this up espeically when he was talking to his brother on a prior podcast talking about how he would lend people money and then would follow up and demand payment and people were scared of him. You probably werent mean, just acted as an authority of the situation and handled it with confidence and people just complied. Follow up experiments showed some really interesting results, but i dont feel comfortable sharing that here knowing at least half your audience lol
