@@DurzoBlunts It born as a helicopter carrier (like the Garibaldi that is going to replace), then the project re-converted in a F-35 carrier. As you may notice, there's now a joint on a "cut" bow (originally it was designed with a traditional V-shaped bow), that's where they'll mount the launch ramp (like the Garibaldi). They launched it without the ramp for a long political story (not new in Italy) as the budget were accounted for a "humanitarian ship", and it will not look that much humanitarian with a bunch of F-35 aboard. They will silently add the ramp later when the buzz is over. :) Side note: that thing has one of the most powerful radar ever built (for a ground/sea level radar) with a 1.5K miles range.

The F 35B is the only current replacement for the AV 8B Harrier jets already in service in Spain, plus the Harriers are becoming obsolete and the Spanisñ government extended the operational life, but it is estimated that those warbirds would last until 2028-2030. If Spain doesn't procure the F 35B during this decade, the Juan Carlos I will be the largest helicopter carrier in the Spanish Armada.

Your land vehicul are old (VM 90, Jeep, M113...) and the newest have huge availabilities problems (60% of puma are ready to be use, literally HALF of the Centauro are in bad conditions) and some are just useless (the Freccie has no useful weapon : no rocket, no 40MM) and i'll skip on it. Than you ordered the F35 ???!!!! have you lost your mind ??? This plane is just not ready to fight, create huge amount of work on it, the country have to spend huge cost... And if you don't believe me, do some research and see the F35 has 900 Huge problems with only 157 fixable ... Can't shoot straight, Can't fly more than MAC 0.9, Have engine problem, wing problems, helmet and sit problem (glad my country didn't buy it). About your navy ... Bad submarines (no enough deepness range, not enough weapon, slow, not nuclear and has a high chance of explosion if it's hit ...), than your AC are not nuclear so they have to get fuel every 3 days... Can only carry 12 AC and only the one that take off in the vertical way ... so bad for speed after takeoff ... A country like italy will have serious problem with money (140% of the GDP for the debt) after the covid thing...

Josh Boucher incorrect. It splits up the big conning tower of a typical carrier. Instead of having one big place to hit, it’s spread over two smaller towers. It’s splitting the operations in two, meaning if it was one big tower that got hit, then that’s a lot of operations taking a hit.

So I'm guessing you've seen the us and UK super carriers side by side,the world's biggest classes. QE class weigh a fair bit less than us carriers but the very very close in actual sizes.

They just weren't sure what it was supposed to be. They weren't even sure what kind of aircraft they were going to use.

Yes but not every time,shes mostly used for helicopters. She is replacing garibaldi not cavour,apparently the Cavour will be the main user of f 35s.

@@dariomasi9 the flight deck is designed for F35Bs, but the ski-jump will be added later because in Italy the only way to have a warship funded is by telling the parliament it's a humanitarian ship. That's how it works in Italy.

The helicopters im talking about are not for humanitarian porposes,but for anti submarine action And the ski jump will not be added beacose its not needed. Also about the parlament,what? We are in the middle of the biggest italian navy shipbuilding campaign since the early 2000s,a new carrier, 9 new destroyers,dozens of new coast guard ships and new 20k tons logistical ships. I would agree if you were talking about the 90s,but at this time nah,the sector thats being underfunded is the army,as always...

No,as destroyers i refer to the ppas, the unpav i say are the coast guard ships,yea sorry they arent dozens but they are not the only ones. Still there are also 2 new fremms wich are bieng commissioned in the next 1-2 years,so there are also them. (Also lets hope they find something to replace the san giorgios lhds, i dont think trieste alone can take the job of both san giorgios and garibaldi)
