To think Denmark being a small country and it designs such a effective multi role ship for its navy is impressive. I think this ship and it's sister class Iver Huitfeldt frigate have superior qualities than other naval ships on the market. The proof of this is the Royal Navy purchased a derivative of this vessel to be built by Babcock. Quite a accomplishment.

@@skodass1 Actually, Bishop Absalon of Roskilde was not the person who brought Christianity to Denmark. Officially, the person who made Danes Christian was Harald Bluetooth in the late 900s. Bishop Absalon was Bishop of Roskilde when he was awarded a land area by King Valdemar and that land area included a small fishing village basically know by the name "Havn" (Harbor). The Bishop built a small fortress on the small island that today is the location where Christiansborg Castle is located and that was the official time where Copenhagen was founded.

@@forcea1454What part of "replacement " did you not understand ? ....Besides Absalon does in fact have plenty of space to accomodate one or more Mk41 8 cell modules, though it would require a minor redesign and giving up a little of the flex deck ( where the gym is currently located).
@forcea14543 ай бұрын
@@mkpoulsen Cutting the large holes into the ship's structure required for Mk 41 is not a "minor redesign", especially given they will be cutting through the strength deck amidships, where stresses are highest. A great frigate with a great range, 9k nm, and flexibility. i believe something for our new members of Nato Sweden and Finland to consider. And lets hope we can let the revenue of expenditure stay in the Nordic countries as well. Maybe even a joint naval task force for our Nordic navy's at least at international tasks far abroad
@leifiseland12183 ай бұрын
Well, The Finns are already at work building their new "Corvettes", so they not likely to order any of these. The Norwegians, I don't know, they are about to buy new Frigates, but they will in all likelyhood be very focused on their situation in the vicinity of Murmansk. Sweden, well, while they are working on a new larger Corvette design, with the changes in geopolitics, Sweden really ought to add a set of airdefence Frigates aswell, & something based on the Absalon/Huitfeldt class should be suitable.. At the same time you have the fact that Denmark scrapped it's submarine capability after the cold war, which is unfortunate now, especially since it's a capability that is really hard to rebuild.. However, Sweden still has that capability, icluding designing & building subs. So, if Denmark & Sweden could develop close enough cooperation, both nations deficiencies could probably be solved quite efficiently, with local resources, benefitting both nations aswell.. Say Denmark ordering 2 subs based on the configuration the Netherlands/Damen version of A26 developed with SAAB-Kockums, & Sweden ordering 4 Frigates based on the Absalon/Huitfeldt class, & both navies working together on traing & operating the vessels..🤔 That way the capabilities of both nations could be radically increased very rapidly, & at a very reasonable cost.. Which would benefit the whole Nordic Baltic region alot aswell.🧐 The problem is ofcourse getting the politicians to allocate the resources.. it will cost a fair bit of money..On the other hand, with this kind of cooperation, the money would largely stay within the respective economies, so the effective cost for both nations would be limited considerably..
@herptek3 ай бұрын
@@leifiseland1218I believe it would benefit Finland to have a couple of dedicated theater air- and missile defence ships in addition to the 4 new multi-purpose corvettes. The Nordic and Baltic region air defense capabilities would be increased by a notch should there be still more ambitious plans.

@A_Haunted_Pancake3 ай бұрын
@@Sofus. To be fair, the LCS was a dumb idea from start to finish. I get that they needed something to keep American shipyards alive after the end of the cold war, but even then, it wasn't like the U.S. Fleet was just so new, that they couldn't have worked on replacements. But the LCS could superficially be made to look cheap, even if it "plugged a hole" nobody had seen in the previous 30 years - mainly because it didn't exist.

Starlink is perfectly fine for the Crews private use and it's arguably better to completely seperate that internet traffic (and related Computers) from the system that DOES need maximum security. One can only hope that recent developments like Ukraine have ended the Political effort to end heavy industry and specially the production of military equipment here in Denmark. That way the Absolon Classes replacement might NOT have to be built abroad - something that seemed almost inevitable only a few years ago. One positive aspect I see in that area is, that after a break of over a decade, there's at least 1 school that since 2023 trains new Naval Architects. We might even be able to safe / bring back some of our major shipyards, as long as the Government only tries to get out of the way and for God sake doesn't attempt to "help".

It so happens that my country Poland has started building three Miecznik-class frigates based on the British design, from which the Absalan frigate also originates. Interestingly, there is a lot of space on this ship, which makes this structure suitable for deep modernization. Polish frigates will have a permanent crew of 120 people, the first block of the hull of the Polish frigate ORP Wicher is ready, 3 ships have been ordered, but the plans are to build 8 of them, we will see how it will be. It is a pity that so much time has been wasted in Poland and only now are frigate-class ships being built for the Polish Navy, but as they say, better late than never.
