I get the impression that these guys have done that a few times before!! I was biting my nails hoping for a good outcome, but they all knew what they were doing, even though to me, it looked a bit dangerous at times. However, I am no expert, and in she went without drama. Good job I was not on the team though, as I couldn't understand a word they were saying!!!

Most probably a centuries old practice that still works today. Good to see before this too is filed in the big old box of history. Thank you.

I've been in japanese waters, crossing many times the Shimonoseki strait, the inner sea etc. All around the islands those fishermen in those sleek, fast boats were mindless of sea traffic: they just put the throttle full ahead and you had to blow the whistle like crazy to tell them to watch around!!!

There are several ways of launching a vessel of that size, and that is obviously one of them. Although personally I think that if they are going to continue using a set up like that, I would maybe add another axle, on a little longer carriage, with a braking system set up so that it can be used to both steer, and stop it, yet still be able to be tilted at the seawall for launching. Great job, and I like the hull shape, with the added reserve buoyancy built into it. That is a great looking little sea boat. (You should add a link to the builder, or hull make/model).

@alext90674 жыл бұрын
A friend and I were looking at that. I can't dope it out. That's why I did a word search for "rudder". You're the only one I found.
@Paddington604 жыл бұрын
@@alext9067 I and some friends have been thinking about the rudder and its apparent tab. If we could see up inside the hull, I think there would be a linkage to turn the "tab" in the appropriate direction. The link from the hull being a rod, that rod running in a tube on the tab. I tried looking at the website mentioned by the Poster but that is an angling site not the boat builder. An interesting arrangement however it works. Could be just the tab is used at higher speed or the tab give greater rudder effect at slow speed. The stern thruster would perhaps suggest the former rather than the latter.

Very strange way to launch a ship, but they got it done finally in the end.
