One idea for what to do with this device: Configure the four tracks as bass, pad, arp, and lead. Configure 7 of the 8 patterns (and matching scenes) for the 7 main chords in a scale. Then play it like a NDLR, changing realtime between the 7 patterns, ideally while playing a melody on the lead track or on another device. This uses most of its sequencing capacity (4 tracks and 8 short patterns) and turns it into an easy accompaniment sequencer.

WOW WOW WOW! I love my Circuit and this feels like such an incredible natural extension into my Ableton usage. This almost feels like Push playability but fewer layers and more straightforwardness. I'm sure this will be a video that goes well with the Novation in-depth video on the Sequencer. My Launchpad Pro has been gathering dust, but it's now one of the key pieces of gear in my production workflow. The more I explore it, the more I love it. The Sequencer's features sometimes were hard to wrap my head around, so this demo is something I'll be returning to so that I can get the hagn of them. Thanks for doing it!

I hear this referred to as an "external hardware sequencer", but I have yet to see anyone demonstrating the transmission of MIDI notes out of synthesizer (e.g. that Korg Minilogue in this video) into the LaunchPad Pro and then playing them back out of the LPP sequencer into the synthesizer. The LPP manual says just hit the Capture Midi button, but that does not seem to work. Why are there no demonstrations of this external sequencer's MOST ESSENTIAL function???

With the latest firmware, the Circuit's sequencer is lightyears beyond what Novation has offered since. It's a real bummer. Using the MonoStation or the newer SL Mk3 controllers feel like a huge step backward. We can't queue up patterns, only run one from the next in a chain. There are no micro-timings. The ability to carry over a tone from one pattern to the next is limited. If the Launchpad Pro Mk3 works like the MonoStation or SL Mk3 sequencer, then I'm not interested. The Circuit would still be far more advanced.

Only recently started using one with a hardware setup. Drum station, A Station, Super Bass Station and a Bass Station 2. The Launchpad Pro MK3 is the most underrated standalone sequencer of its time and I do feel it is lost on just being used by musicians as an Ableton controller. Novation have put a lot of work into creating a meaningful work flow for hardware sequencing. If you are looking for a live performance tool to be used with a hardware midi setup then check one out. With the right Midi to CV converter it would be a great addition for a live Modular performance 👍🏻 Tez

Thanks Bo! Very helpful tutorial! I just want to contradict saying it can not be recommended as a sequencer alone - I have had lot of fun with it this Jamuary, and I dont have Ableton, I just controlled hardware synths with it. There might be better sequencers, but they also nearly all cost (much) more, so if you are ok with 4 tracks(e.g. 2 synthss and one drum), it's just fine for the price. Besides ableton it can also be used nicely with bitwig, as there is the drivenbymoss midi controller extension that makes it functioning very similar as in ableton (which is free and also supports many more controllers, including Maschine and Push).

Nice video! It's a little pity that LPP MK3 cannot lit the buttons more as it does not have an optimal visibility for the video in this amount of light. Everything is nicely explained, thanks for that. Besides, what I was primarily looking everywhere over the internet and couldn't find the answer anywhere (even in this video) was how to record longer sequence then the 32 steps in the standalone mode at once. Actually, there are two options, that can be combined together as I found: 1) slow down the sequence pattern (to half speed or quarter speed - every time omit one button to the left controlling the pattern speed, it gets some triplet speed otherwise). You can now record two or four times long sequence but you lose note timing precision of course. 2) With empty sequencer, use "scenes" in a way, that you make a linear chain of individual patterns for the wanted track (up to all 8 per track). This works also for patterns being empty as you can now play them and watch them to change in the time! At this time you can save the project and have it as a starting point for this purpose. Now if you hit record button, it will keep the pattern flow defined within those "scenes" and you can fill them one by one with your performance :-). Hope this helps someone! I am considering making a special video showing off this feature, so let me know if it might be helpful having done this.

Just realised now that I want this. 4 times I've owned a Push. Sold it everytime because I only used it for drum pads and sequencing. But for exactly those 2 things I really liked it. And the LPP3 has those 2 things at a more affordable price. So if I'm not really using the other features of Push 2, it makes more sense to get the Novation. I can use it without a computer. So I can also use it for playing in drums on Octatrack. AND it has 4 tracks of POLYPHONIC tracks. Only 32 steps. But with the pattern chain feature I actually prefer that over a 64 step sequencer on the LPP3 specifically, since that's how it's physically laid out. Srsly this controller/sequencer seems like a total gem for the money. One thing though, does the pads feel about as great as on a Push? Because I didn't like the small ones on the Launchkey mk2 series. They needed a lot of force. Edit: just figured out that octatrack doesn't recieve velocity information on audio tracks. Weird. But well, I'll just use chromatic on that unit then.

I want to use this as an instrument - I hear the push 2's pad dynamics is really good and I'm more interested in playability over Ableton integration so in that regard the price of the launchpad pro would make it much more attractive. Speaking of which if they made an 8 track sequencer version of this I think a lot of people would be queuing up for this.

Can the setting for the pads responsiveness be changed

Did Arturia switch to the 3.5mm Midi A standard? (Their old sequencers were the now-deprecated Midi B).

I have one of these, and am confused on the microsteps. If you have a particular sound on multiple steps in a pattern, and you want to do microsteps on a few but not all of them, is that not possible? it's all or none? I can't figure out how to make individual sounds on individual steps microstepped.

Hello bo beats! thank you for this tutorial. did you expierience any sync tempo issues when sequensing external gear and running ableton sequencer at the same time?
@BoBeats2 жыл бұрын
no! but your milage might vary as different midi gear can behave differently

My favorite use for the LPPro is as an isometric (grid) MIDI keyboard - the “scale mode”, I think it’s called. Does this new version still have that? Could I use that view to play notes while recording a sequence?

Bo, this is the exact type of "music" I would like to produce and in time incorporate other types. What is the best location to learn MIDI information, sequencing and programming. Right now I have a Circuit, a Minilougue XS module and the Korg Elecscribe Sampler 2.

hello can i ask if the launchpad can directly connect to a sustain pedal(through Midi in port) and work ?

Scale mode - There are 32 modes as explained in overview PDF from Novation. That said, I have 16 pads that will change modes. the next 16 are green (I think, slightly colorblind). Why can't I pick the next 16 modes? I'm so confused, just want to hang our in Lydian land (mode 17).

I play it whenever I visit a music store and try out a synth. Last time I did there was another customer playing Stairway to heaven on acoustic guitar.

This should have existed when i was running dawless. Now with a full hybrid Push2 setup it just has no place, even with the features. Also, i wonder if they'll hand down some of the features to the previous LP PRO. There been many cool custom firmwares that tried to implement something similar. So it's just a software thing really. The old hardware is still fine. I do like the modern look tho

Does anyone know if there is a stand alone Step/RealTime Sequencer that you can record vocals and guitars directly onto? Thanks.
@MSS-g7f5 жыл бұрын
For this to be a successful stand alone sequencer it needs a BPM indicator for clock out. Does it have a similar RGB one like the Circuit?
@ontheroad5794 жыл бұрын
Late answer, but still. According to the manual (I don't have one), Shift + Device shows BPM (using the lighted buttons) and allows adjusting them.

Hello, could you tell me where you got the RHODES sound please? I wrote to novationmusic several times but we don't understand each other! The patches only accept the .sysex format and novation tells me that each machine has its own .sysex. I downloaded sounds on a site in .sysex but the circuit does not accept them. Can you tell me how to get HAMMOND / RHODES / CLAVINET / BASS ACOUSTIC sounds compatible with the circuit? Thank you for your attention.
