Because that's all we truly want out of life. But our society has put these standards on having partners with the best looks, jobs, traveling adventures, who seems to have have have. What's really important is someone loving you unconditionally for who you are and even the most mundane things are wonderful with the right person. But we've been conditioned to believe that love must be earned, that you alone aren't worthy unless you prove yourself. That's why that line hits so hard. It cuts through the bullshit to what truly actually matters.

Rich CEO Waymond being jealous of Laundromat Waymond is just a nut kick into the feels.
@phantomninja01
@phantomninja01 7 ай бұрын
It's an important details that the two "coolest" versions of Waymond, the badass one and CEO Waymond are both depicted as being quite sad. One lost his wife and is killed by his daughter, and the other never got over the love of his life leaving him despite being successful. It's the Waymond that runs a struggling laundromat and is filing for divorce that ultimately has the happy ending.
@jerdand_carguelles49

@@phantomninja01 let me remind you, he filed for divorce just to get the attention of evelyn enough to talk to her properly. In one of the universes they went home after the IRS visit, they were discussing about it and waymond brought it up. @@Neojhun There's an additional layer of meaning in that line if you understand Mandarin. The subtitles said, "In another life, I would have really liked..." but what Waymond actually said was, "If reincarnation turns out to be real, I'd want my next life to be laundry and taxes with you." He's not just looking back at what could've been, but also saying that, given the chance, he would choose that life.

This scene is everything! In case my fellow laundry+tax lovers didn't know: 1. the cinema photography is a nod to the HK movies (In the Mood for Love, 2046) of Wong Kar Wai and Christopher Doyle. 2. What he said in Mandarin: 如果有来生,我还是会选择和你一起,报税,开洗衣店 Exact translation: If there were a next life (reincarnation), I still would choose to be with you, file taxes, open a laundromat 3. I'm 99% sure that it was Ke Huy Quan's wife was the translator

One of the many things this movie is remarkable for is that it doesn't refute anything. Yes you can be living the worst outcome where things are tough and it can still be celebrated for the wonderful parts. And tens of millions of women, including me, had an epiphany. Alpha Waymond, who seemed more 'macho', was constantly pushing Evelyn around, leaving Evelyn and doubting her, while *her* Waymond was fighting for her, fighting for their marriage and supporting her 100%. We as women are starting to learn that the bad boys we fall for, often tirnes turn into 'bad men'. Men like Waymond, who fight with kindness, treat us the way we hope for. 💕

This scene, with the music, is so beautiful that I feel breathless watching it. Every time. Waymond would trade all the money in the world to be in another life with Evelyn, just doing laundry and taxes. That's true love. ❤

I've been lucky enough to be with the love of my life for 18 years and counting. This is really what it's about. You can go have adventures and do all the "big" and flashy, fun things, but at the end of the day, it's you and your partner, cleaning up the mess, going through the mundane between the adventures. You want someone you can do dishes, laundry, grocery shop with... find you someone who makes the small, every day things more enjoyable. I don't want riches and fame, I just want to live happily and comfortably with the person I love and the little family we have. That's the real secret.

The art of human interaction is to say the most (of what is important) in the least amount of time. Using non-verbal methods to deliver the message is not optional. Dr Strange: I want to ask you something. Are you happy? Wong: That's an interesting question. Dr Strange: I think that saving the world would get you there but it doesn't. Wong: Sometimes I wonder about my other lives and I remain grateful in this one even with its tribulations. Dr Strange: Because we dont have to go through it alone. Wong: No we don't. Waymond: I wanted to say… In another life, I would have really liked… just doing laundry and taxes with you. 雷蒙 (In Mandarin, Waymond uses words that are more common to the Chinese culture): I want (strongly) tell you, if there is (life) after life, I would still choose (definitely), with you together … file taxes … open laundry shop.

In addition to the beautiful line from Waymond, what I love is the gorgeous soundtrack slowly settling into place while Waymond is talking until the camera cuts to Evenlyn and a quiet BOOM is heard as the realization hits Evelyn. Michelle Yeoh's reaction is just perfect. Combined with the music - it just hurts!!

if u want ur viewers to cry, give them an emotional reason to do so if u want them to laugh give them a reason to if u want them to gasp and scream at the absurdity of a scene, make em watch someone get a buttplug in order to fight- the creators and everyone involved did an amazing job out of having such love and care for what they were making, it simple and its wanting to create something meaningful while also giving that meaning onto the scenes, the character, the moments and everything, its very hard to put all the miles of things i want to say about this movie but its simply so amazing

🌼 In another life, I would’ve really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you, what i hear is : If there is an afterlife, I will still choose to be with you, file taxes, open a laundry 🌼 your father would say I was too sweet for my own good, what i hear is : your father always thinks my heart is too soft, 🌼 this is how i fight, what i hear is : It's just that we choose to handle it differently

It doesn't make much difference, but I wonder why he says "If there was an afterlife/reincarnation, I would still choose to do taxes and run a laundromat with you" in Chinese but is translated to just "In another life I'd have liked to do laundry and taxes with you"
@distortdude80

I guess it's the relevance in the US, maybe? As not many people can relate to opening a laundromat. But doing laundry is more common.
