I sang this recently, I did maria at school and it was at a memorial concert for the old drama teacher , I got the shock of my life as the man who was my captain cane all the way from USA where he works to perform it with me . I had rehearsed with someone else

In the reality the Captain was much older than Maria.So this is the best casting for me.In the original cast Maria (Mary Martin ) was older than The Captain( Theodore Bikel) and in the movie he was a bit older(Plummer was born in 1928 and Dame Julie in1935).In recent revivals he was b very young for the role played byJulian Ovenden and other vey young actors,

I thought it was 25-30, which is a bit much, but not that uncommon. But 45 years, wow. Well, they still manage to look fine together. "Something Good" was not in the original Broadway musical and only first appeared in the movie classic, but every production on stage now carries that song too instead of the original "An Ordinary Couple" which was what Rodgers and Hammerstein created for the musical.

Has any man in recorded history aged more beautifully than Richard Chamberlain? Its crazy enough that any guy could be that good looking as a young man. Then to maintain that look more than 40 years later is an absolute miracle of nature. Only Cary Grant compared for aging like a vintage wine. As Irene Lorenzo stated about Cary Grant in the classic All in the Family, "How come as I got Older, he got Cuter?!" That was Richard Chamberlain. So much so that he doesn't look out of place beside a woman more than 40 years his junior!! Completely Believable as her soon to be husband. The actress playing with him however is out of her element. Her performance is too flighty and manic. Moving and performing like a Thespian nervous wreck. Very pretty, but so out of control the viewer can't appreciate her vocal talent. And she can sing!! JUST WAY TOO FAST. She could learn so much from a trained professional like Chamberlain. How to control a scene with natural, measured movement. As the great Julie Andrew's did in the movie. A serene and almost somber rendering. Feeling every syllable. Behind his "Just so Gorgeous and Incredible Face," as his female Press Agent referred to him, was a vast talent. He just had to work that much harder to make people notice it. Almost too Good Looking to be taken seriously as an Actor. It's to his ever lasting credit that he was.
