This version is, in my opinion, by far, the best of the best. Laura's voice is so much stronger and more emotional than Jennifer's or Celine's.

For me, vocally speaking Laura Branigan's take on The Power of Love is the best. The grit, the rawness, the raspy tone in her voice and the amount of emotion she puts into her performance is otherworldly. I am aware about Jennifer Rush's version and I actually love several of Jennifer's songs such as Heart Over Mind, If You're Ever Gonna Lose My Love, I Come Undone, Ring of Ice, Wings of Desire, Love Get Ready, Destiny, etc and I do think her voice is amazing as well and even though she is the original performer and she co-wrote the song and even though I also love Jennifer's take on The Power of Love, I still stick with Laura's. With that being said, this performance unfortunately is NOT live although there are a couple of truly live performances of Laura's version of The Power of Love that you can check out.

Thank you for doing this song.Everytime anybody does a reaction to this song,it is always Céline's cover and I always comment that they should check out this version. Then comes the hate.I know Céline did an amazing version and Laura's voice may not be as technology perfect as Céline but I think the rasp in here voice and the power of her voice makes it seem to me that she is singing with more emotion.I am happy to see someone actually do this version and that you found it amazing.I am also happy to see other comments from people who love it too. From the nasty comments I got from people on other reactions that I mention that this is worth giving a listen to,you would think I said something blasphemous. Some people don't seem to get that you can actually appreciate more than one version of a song without dissing the others. And in the end,it's just my opinion. It's not right or wrong. It's an opinion.Anyway, sorry for ranting on about this but you just don't know how many times that I have suggested this version and got dumped on about it.Thanks again.

She had an exceptional voice and remains one of the most underated artists I'm aware of. So many great songs that weren't the hits they should have been. The first time that I ever heard this song was when Air Supply did it. I loved the song the first time I heard it. A bit down the road, when I heard Laura was doing it, I couldn't wait to hear it, because she was my absolute favorite singer. Talk about nailing it! After watching this video, I have seen all the comments from others expressing which version they prefer. To each their own for sure, but here's my take. Honestly, Jennifer Rush's version and Celine's version have subtle differences between them, both in the vocal delivery and the production. There is no significant difference in one from the other. Laura's version is more similar to Air Supply's in production value and also vocally, HOWEVER, as so many have already said, Laura absolutely put's 100% of herself into singing this song, and the more dramatic production lends itself well to her delivery. For some reason Air Supply changed some of the lines (and' I'm not referring to the chorus), and it ends up a bit clumsy sounding if you ask me. I've always been puzzled as to why Laura's version didn't become a SMASH! I guess it was a timing thing. Perhaps, it should have been the lead single, and since Shattered Glass wasn't a big hit, radio didn't pay as much attention to the 2nd single. I feel like Laura came about a couple years too early, and that she'd have done better if she'd arisen in the late 80's, who knows? It's irrelevant now anyhow, but what does matter is that Laura continues to be discovered, and that is wonderful and amazing, and she has a tremendous and dedicated person guarding her legacy and continuing to promote Laura around the world by updating and participating in a website and interacting with fans around the globe. Her name is Kathy, and Laura did well leaving things in her hands. BRAVO! Thanks to Derek for contributing to the continued discovery of the amazing singer, Laura Branigan!

Laura had a No. 12 hit with the beautiful ballad "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You?" in 1983. And then when the song's writer (co-writer) Michael Bolton crossed over from just being a songwriter to becoming a hearththrob singing star attraction himself, he released his own version of his song in 1989 and it went all the way to No. 1.

Power of Love by Laura was a slow burner on the Billboard Hot 100. The song debuted at #97 on October 24, 1987 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent an incredible EIGHTEEN weeks on the charts peaking at #26 on January 9, 1988 for two consecutive weeks in that position. It spent NINE weeks in the Top 40, alone with a minor char position! It slowly fell of the chart finally ending its 18 consecutive weeks chart run at # 98 on February 20, 1988. There was no official music video and it's success is largely attributed to radio airplay and strong record sales. Laura herself said the label, Atlantic Records, failed to promote it properly because those who heard it on the radio, couldn't find it in the record stores and record areas that carried the 45, weren't promoting the record. It was a travesty of justice because Laura poured all of her voice into the song and should have been a major hit for her.

Laura Branigan and Kate Bush (who I've also seen you review and love) are by far my two favourite artists. They're very different in many ways, but both make you really feel, really move you, by the range and power and emotion in their voices. They are both masters of it. I highly recommend other songs from Laura, some of her lesser known ones, including ones she wrote herself like Didn't We Almost Win It All (don't confuse it with the similar sounding Whitney song, which is also a great song). Never In A Million Years is one of the most emotive songs I've ever heard. Solitaire, one of her bigger songs (it was top 5 in my homeland, Australia), is unbelievably good. She didn't write as much as Kate - Kate possesses song-writing excellence beyond compare - but Laura's voice is astonishing. While I'm mentioning Kate, definitely check out some of the few live performances available from her. She's amazing live as well. There's a live version of Kashka from Baghdad on KZbin that's remarkable. And the live version of James And The Cold Gun from the 1979 tour (live at Hammersmith) has got to be one of the best live performances - literally live art-rock - of all time. It's better than the studio recording. I can't praise it enough. There's also a fantastic live version of Breathing - the only time she performed it live apparently - from the 1986 Comic Relief. Some thoughts!

During this time in music there were alot of great women singers that weren't writers who were competing for the best songs to sing. Tina Turner, Cher, Celine Dion, Bonnie Tyler and Laura. Many songs were shared and recorded and released by two different female artists. Simply the Best was written by Cher's boyfriend at the time Ricky Sambora. The song was recorded and released by both Bonnie Tyler and Tina Turner. Another dual recorded released Celine and Laura song was Unison. Laura again wins due to the song emotion. Celines' version has one of the first raps ever heard on a song. I Found Someone was a song released by both Cher and Laura.
