Lovely talk, both the scientific/transhuman aspect and the founder story. Excited to see where biotech goes in the next 20 years. As an aside, when I listened to Laura talk about fields that were unfairly maligned, fusion came to mind as another technology that's had a similar path.

24:00: helping an elderly person "I care about" to not feel pain omg 31:00 is SO important. Jay Wacker once mentioned on Quora that scientists age better than most people (I saw all the love ppl and respect ppl gave to george herbig of herbig-haro fame, and it meant SO much to me, and I even saw him shortly before he passed away). But most people who have not gotten tenure.. endure so much ageism. It's REALLY important to see the plots of people's mid-life drops in happiness - these things are *extremely extremely real*. I know so many older people who seem to be so sad, or given up hope. who were some introspective historical figures who REALLY wanted to live longer? ESPECIALLY the scientists or philosophers? they were surely aware of their own mortality

40:00: "the most interesting fields are the ones that have sketch reputations for not technical/real reasons". THINK PAUL JOSEPH 48:00: updated away from seeing "social network" as a model of entrepeneur. There are so so many other ways of predicting who might serve well as an entrpereneur (sometimes it's people skills). One friend of mine mentions the founder of indiebio ARVIND as a good example (even tho he didn't consider himself the smartest)

She has spent too much time in biology to be able to see the proteins, simulating proteins are difficult in pc's and to be able to imagine in your head is beautiful yet difficult...
