I made these for Christmas the year my son passed. It helped me cope with the loss. Specially since I was looking forward to making cookies with him even though he would’ve been a newborn. These are just delicious!! They have such a nice kind of buttery taste but not overwhelming, sweet but not too sweet. They are amazing even without icing! I had some issues handling the dough because of the intense heat where I live, it turned very sticky very quickly. If anyone wants to make them during summer or is baking these for christmas and lives in the southern hemisphere I would advice to cut the dough in four and store them in the freezer. Take one of those pieces, spread it, cut the cookies as fast as you can and then put it back in the freezer. Repeat this with all the dough until you have nothing left and that's about it. It's worth it!

Thank you so much laura for this recipe!!! Sugar cookies are my favorite part of Christmas. Ever since I was young, me, my sister and brother would help my mom out making them! We'd take turns rolling out the dough, and had so many different cutters! If we had extra dough, we just ate it! Although we would get belly aches, haha! Even though I'm older now, its still something I think is important to get together and do.

These came out delicious. What I did was take the sugar down from 1 cup to 2/3 cup so that it wasn’t too sweet. I divided the dough into 2 and added some lemon juice and zest to the first half. To the second half I added some orange zest and a little bit of the juice too and it added a delicious flavor. I really suggest trying it like that.

I use that recipe with more flour, it still has the same delicious flavor, but makes the cookies easier to roll and cut (without putting it into the fridge) and I use them to make cookie houses for Christmas... like gingerbread ones
