"Hollywood Party" (1934) is a hodge-podge of loosely-linked comedy sketches.
Many contemporary comics appear including Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.
Although on loan to MGM, their Hal Roach Studios comedy style is in full effect.
The highlight is Stan and Ollie's tit-for-tat battle with a feisty Lupe Velez.

Lupe Velez was stunningly beautiful and had great comic timing. Her personal life was legendary..physical fights with ex lovers and passionate love affairs with Hollywood A list stars such as Gary Cooper and Douglas Fairbanks. She was dubbed "the Mexican spitfire" for her wild antics. Lupe is great in this scene with Laurel and Hardy. Her early death from suicide after another failed love affair which let her feeling betrayed and pregnant, was too much for poor Lupe to bear. It's a shame that shes remembered more for her wild antics and early death as she was so talented.

In his book "The World I Lived In" George Jessel claims that Lupe Velez pinned his hand to a table with a steak knife at Ciro's in LA in the early '30s when they were "dating" because he looked another woman up and down.

I've always remembered this scene with the beautiful woman at the bar and the raw eggs, one of the funniest in my opinion, I thought it might have been Mae Busch who was in many of Laurel & Hardy's films, now I know exactly who ... Lupe Velez ! so sad to read they both died so young

Yes, the pilot episode "The Good Son." Whilst poor Lupe did commit suicide, it's unclear whether she was found in exactly the way Roz mentioned.

L&H and Mickey Mouse are the only worthwhile parts of this movie. The rest is pointless. Even the Stooges are wasted (as they always were in the Ted Healy era).
