I love this formband tape, found it a few years ago and now use it on all my knit sews, amazing stuff. Had so many failures with fold over elastic, knit bands or bias, no more.❤❤❤

Really useful Lauren. I bought one of the kits at GBSB live yesterday so it was good to see how it is used. Kit is great, look forward to make first Scout. 😊

So that is why my machine tried "eating" my viscose as I tried to stay stitch the neckline. I changed the needle and the thread and cleaned it and still no go ! Wished I saw this video before! GREAT INFORMATION, THANKS SO MUCH x

That's so helpful Lauren. I'd love to see a basic how to use interfacing blog for shirt collars- I keep finding I either melt the interfacing or it isn't hot enough to stick! How do I know when to stop heating it?

I don't think I can get Prym products in the US. Does Dritz have a similar product? I found something called Knit-N-Stable Tape but it's 1" wide... doesn't seem quite right.

I've just discovered your channel, thank you for the great sewing tips. One question, I'm making long fleece hooded capes for my kids to go camping with (making it up as I go along really) and I was concerned that the weight on the neckline might damage the material over time, I was looking at reinforcing it will herringbone twill tape, but would this be a good alternative? I don't want to make the neck 'itchy' which my kids are very particular about. Any advice very welcome, thank you.

Hello, I'm sure if you used some cotton twill tape it wouldn't be itchy. Or you could use iron on interfacing on the back of the fabric to strengthen it and that wouldn't show on the outside anyway :)

Wonderful video Lauren, thank you! I think I may need to get some of that form tape. I do have a couple of questions I would absolutely love if you could help me out please? Slightly related, slightly not! 1. Do you have any tips for sewing bias binding onto necklines/sleeves/hems to avoid it slightly kicking out? Do you think this form tape would be the answer? I love how clean a finish bias binding gives, but I do not like that quite often I will end up with a neckline that sort of sits up, particularly on the shoulders. And 2. Regarding the sequin top you made; you said that you lined your top. I know that the sequin fabric is slightly sheer (I've bought some of the black from you!) so I'm just wondering if you can see the seam at the neckline when sewn to the lining? Thanks so much in advance for your help! :)

Suzanna Forsythe, I usually attach less binding than the actual neckline measurement. I slightly pull the binding tight when pinning and stitching and have so far had great results. Hope this helps, Sue x

Thanks Suzanna, It depends on the fabric really re the bias binding issue. The forming tape may help but if you are using ready made bias binding that is a bit stiffer it may be that you aren't stretching it enough around the curves of the neckline. Stretching probably isn't the best word to use, as you don't necessarily want to pull it, just manipulate it around the curve while under tension. I'll add it to my ideas list for future videos as it might be one of those things that just easier to show visually rather than describe! :)

I've purchased a wrap dress that the neck is cut on the bias, I bought the stay tape for that neck line, is that the right kind of tape?

Hi Janice, yes the forming tape interfacing I feature in this video would be great for that type of garment :)

Great video, thank you. I’m planning to make my first Ogden Cami soon, and first time sewing with viscose. Will this tape go around the v-neckline, or should I cut it into two pieces at the point of the neckline? Also, should I put it around the neckline of the lining too? Thanks in advance.
@LaurenGuthrieGhani

Hello, yes I would put it around the lining as well and just do the v neck in two pieces so cut two separate lengths and they will very slightly overlap at the v

I’m using it on stretch top shoulder seams. Should I use the other tape you mentioned instead, is it better for shoulders? Thank you.

Hi Sue, I find its best to use the seam tape interfacing for stabilising shoulder seams on stretch garments. guthrie-ghani.co.uk/shop/prym-seam-tape-interfacing-10mm-wide :)
