Yeah Steven shouldn't have lied about cancer, but honestly Lauren did not even really love him. Steven was basically a rebound for Peter and all Lauren did was dump her son on him while she was flirting with her boss. At least Abi had a better connection with him and they should have been together instead.

That's what happens when you're kind and soft hearted but always get bullied, forgotten and tossed aside. Lauren was the misbehaving wild child but ended up getting all the praise, attention, love etc. Abi was frustrated that she did everything she was 'supposed to', behaced herself and still only got scraps that were tossed aside. Everyone around her was toxic, her mother, father and sister (Bradley doesn't count) and people only think Abi is evil because toward the end of her life she started acting like everyone else- became more selfish. It's only shocking and reviled because it came from her. When the goody two shoes finally snaps then suddenly people notice them.
