I think a lot of people are missing her points. She's not saying, forgo who you are and assimilate to work culture completely. She's saying treat the workplace like an environment, and you're a necessary piece of the food chain. If you're not playing your part, the entire biome or climate suffers.

Oooh im not picking up what she's putting down. This smells old corporate garbage. I do not have time to be sitting at a job for 9 hours a day, most of my labor being taken by the company and then taxed to death by the government to spend my few hours a day with people I can't even get to know on a real level because I can't bring my real self around them because that would get me fired. I think with this conversation, she is telling everyone what employers are looking for, her advice is aimed at helping people get the best chances of getting a job. Ideally, we as women SHOULD NOT be judged for wearing makeup or not (I think that is a little sexist honestly) a blazer and dressing appropriately should be enough but its not to everyone I guess.

I absolutely agree with her points on adapting to the culture of the workplace & networking with your coworkers. Sure, dressing formally isn't my style, but presentation matters whether u think it is or not.

My thoughts exactly. This is pushing an agenda and for a reason. I think it’s because more Corporations are using this HR-made concept of “cultural fit” to discriminate against hiring someone who has the credentials and experience for a job that management may not care for personally/socially. Most employers are not disinterested. She sounds like a plant to spread the message to encourage jobseekers to conform after decades of DEI initiatives. Also, is it coincidence She’s peddling this conformist messaging JUST as DEI is being gutted?

I think people need to realize first impressions are very important when interviewing, if you interview very well and have the credentials to back it up , you have a higher chance. It also depends on the job, if you are going to be representing a company facing consumers , sales for example, a beauty counter, high end clothing store, fashion, you are going to have to do more than just chapstick. Even guys wear makeup now a days. We live in a vein world, the only thing that would change this type of bias is the law…. Discrimination against someone that doesn’t dress their best is not a protected class. By the same logic, if vanity shouldn’t be a factor when hiring , then the same can be said about higiene, not combing hair , not wearing suit… etc. they need to pick a lane and not be hypocritical saying this with a full face of makeup. Whoopie doesn’t wear makeup because she is Whoopie! The other girls would not have a job if they refused to wear makeup for a TV gig.

You are 100% right. When a boss was hitting on me, calling my phone all hours of the night and showing up at my apartment drunk telling me that they were in love with me, and if I didn’t feel the same way with them, they were going to take me. I had no choice but to go to HR with this. For this hotel for many years. I was one of the few staff that stayed there during the worst hurricane we’ve seen in Florida. We didn’t have electricity water, and I had to take care of. Guests. I worked endless hours and was always the manager on duty. I thought HR would have my back with this, but instead of standing behind me, they removed me from that position and had me work somewhere else in the hotel where I made less money. I had been working for that Hotel way longer than the woman that was sexually harassing me.

This doesn't work if you just have a job. It only doesn't clash with yourself if you're privileged enough to be in a career you actually are interested in. Why would anyone invest in something they don't really care about? White people don't have to change who they are in order to work, why is she giving toxic advice to minority women? Pretending to be interested in foreign activities and meaning, is mistreating yourself, disconnecting and will destroy you. How can someone betray themselves? Love the way she's glossing over the fact that she's disregarding inclusion of diversity. It's funny the book is called What do you need. Companies requiring their workers to give themselves is controlling and being owned by them! This is terrible advice. Employers don't get anything more than work for pay.

You wouldn't be saying that if day after day for your entire adult life before retirement you had to participate in African American culture. Time to tie up all that loose spaghetti like hair, and pretend you're interested in kwanza. It's such positive advice when it props you as the center!

I went into this video thinking this was gonna be a “we are victims” segment. I was quite impressed by this lady. 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾

Acknowledging adversity isn't being a victim. So sorry you're annoyed by the minority situation.

Her advice is horrible. You shouldn’t need to go ice hockey to progress at work and if you’re minority “a good culture fit” might have nothing to do with after work drinks 🙃

My boss always called it Team Building so I think it is important to participate.

“We can have kids without them.” Is that right? Please explain this new scientific discovery to me that I’ve never heard of. Last time I checked, you need a woman’s egg and a man’s sperm. What did I miss?

When you walk into an interview the interviewer takes about 7 seconds to make up their minds about you. So appearance really does matter. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

I totally disagree with her. I wear makeup because that's what I like. Women should not to have to wear makeup for a job!! That's ridiculous. Men don't have to wear make up!! BS is sexist and stupid! Her book is only her opinion. I am not interested in it. I must add the fact that she has a book doesn't mean her opinion is right!! How would she like to say if someone said she couldn't work at their establishment with all that long hair? Fake or real some might be turned off to it. Always going to be biases and we should not have to conform to someone's bias position!
