I wanted to do commissions but my father told me i need a liscense. I don't think anyone's seeing this, but if anyone knows, do you have to have a liscense to sell digital art to people?

You don't have to have a license to sell digital art, but that person can then put your art on anything make a whole bunch of money off it and not give you a penny. Is that something you can live with? You really have to be honest with yourself too, do you think your art is at a point where going through the (sometimes tricky & expensive) process of having it licenced is worth it?

@@thellytholdtheathellth5278 That is inaccurate. They retain the copyright as the original artist if they are freelancers and therefore have the right to dictate terms of service for commerical use. Buyers purchase a right to commercial use that is agreed upon by both parties. If the artist is employed as a work for hire freelancer or employee of the company their work is automatically the IP of their employers. If this young artist decides to be a freelancer and take on commissions they as the artist own the copyright and can dictate the terms of use for their product so long as the image is their original work and design. They can allow for personal use or commercial use. It isn't automatically given to the consumer. They would need to research specific labor laws in their country as this is the law for workers in the US.
