The lawyer works for Pied Piper, Richard was outvoted by Laurie's boss who got majority board seats so the lawyer had to side with the decision maker at the time, then Richard got fired and removed so he was no longer affiliated with Pied Piper, Richard got rehired by Jack Barker, regained his board seats through his friends and Jack Barker left so Richard is now the decision maker of Pied Piper again.

Richard seriously comes off as an idiotic "smart" person to me throughout the series. If Gilfoyle or Dinesh had his idea, they would be so much better. He's not practical at all. I understood some of his positions but crying over small shit like fucking ads, he would never succeed if this was real.

Depends on the industry. If the competition never has ads, that's gonna be tough cause it's a turnoff. But of course, you need a revenue stream, so if you don't have another good idea, then ads are a decent option for many.

He is an idealist, he knows ads are invasive, but Laurie is actually speaking from history. Facebook at its beginning was reluctant to sell ads, then they sold their entire soul. Ads, info whatever you want it's all on sale now. It's funny because the guy who sold our data and allowed ads on Facebook, appears on "The Social Dilemma" like he is some kind of hero that wants to save you.
