I feel for the dude, and at the same time am green with envy. How many people get to see this kind of volcanic activity up close and personal and live to tell about it? Party time? No Chit! Yes, it is spewing hot magma, but this is not the "blow your top" type volcano such as Krakatoa or Mt St Helena. She's a creator, not a destroyer. People have lived on volcanic islands for millennia. As fast new islands were created they were settled. Lava breaks down into superb agricultural soil. These flows are creating more land. Once the island has move off the volcanic core this will stop and the island will be even richer than before. That said, not too up close and personal, people. Stay safe.
@pyrolopez8546 жыл бұрын
I don't stupid question to ask but hey only stupid question is the question that's not ask Is there a chance this could turn into a super volcano
@TahoeJones6 жыл бұрын
pyro lopez : Not the type. A new island is likely. Track record supports that.
@joecorsaro13816 жыл бұрын
No. This is just typical shield volcano activity. The Hawaiian volcanoes can grow to be over 10k feet tall. Kīlauea is maybe 4K. That’s a lot of potential growth that will result from this and many many many future eruptions to come over the next couple hundred thousand years. These eruptions are a lot less explosive than Mt. St. Helens, let alone a super volcano. People who are saying this will crack off to form a new island have no clue how islands form or volcanoes work. As the pacific plate move, the hot spot is stationary, causing new volcanoes to form from the sea level. Google Lo’ihi. It’s the volcano that will most likely form the next Hawaiian Island in a few thousand years. People that mention the Hilina slump, don’t understand the difference between a slow, gradual slump and a sudden gigantic earthquake that cause a failure / landslide. Kīlauea, unlike some of the other volcanoes on the big island and the rest of the Hawaiian islands, has no geological evidence for any sort of massive landslide that could trigger a landslide.

Not surprised the first fissure happened close by. Doesn't pumping all that water down the well at high pressure create fissures which acts as the reservoir?

That much flow is obviously not coming just from Kilahuea's drained crater. New, fresh from the deep. Building a new cone is my prediction. Covering every fissure and beyond. Look at the past path going north. I think it's time for a new island.
@mayemcdonald91116 жыл бұрын

The drained crater had a lot of material. It's already pushed out a lot of old magma that's been in the system for decades.

I don't understand why the wells pose a danger. If it all gets covered up by lava what's the problem?
@dralord13076 жыл бұрын
lava heats the already hot subsurface water, builds up pressure in the lower chamber till it all boils and explodes. Would release a huge explosion probably bigger than any the volcano has released yet. The smoke created by it would be very similar to the Laze they talk about.
@LardGreystoke6 жыл бұрын
No, it's just a conduit to toxic gases deep beneath the surface. Don't want that seeping out for years.

J Hatzi well, I'm not interested in starting a dialogue or theological discussion in this venue, but, God has been around a lot longer than 30 years, lol. One of many verses proclaiming His Majesty and control is in Psalm 95:4 -5 In His hand are the depths of the Earth, and the mountain peaks belong to Him. The sea is His, for He made it, and His hands formed the dry land.
@elizabethwalter63106 жыл бұрын
J Hatzi I'm sorry to hear what you and your family went through. It had to be difficult and frustrating. Man's lust for power and control is behind most of the world's problems throughout history. I hope you won't throw out the possibility that the God of the Bible is different. Sadly many men who claimed to know him (and still today) know only enough to get it wrong. They don't know Him. Life on Earth is hard, but God has made a way to give us a future and a hope for a perfect, peaceful eternity with Him through Jesus. There is a church in Hawaii, Calvary Chapel Kaneohe in Hawaii that had a gifted pastor named J.D. Farag. I listen to him all the time on KZbin. I wish I could visit the church. Anyway, maybe you can get there, or check out some of the videos. Please give the Bible a chance to teach you through the Holy Spirit if you don't trust men. Pray and God will guide you. I will be keeping you in my prayers!
