I suspect you have had a conversation with the ppf installer about a DAP ploter/ machine cutter so that its pretty cut making less waste/ cost. Also easier to install. I'd love to get into ppf installs. Also maybe invest in a HEPA filtration system- something mobile you can move around your workshop so that you can pull any contaminants out of the air. I've got a dehumidifier that has an air clean mode that uses a HEPA filter- they 100% work very well 👌. Looking forward to seeing some ppf installs

Car looks as if it’s had a wash with a pot scourer and I’ve never seen as much over spray? on what is a relatively new car. The paintwork on my new Macan was perfect, which after seeing the defects on other new cars on your channel, was a pleasant surprise. Even an 18 months old Boxster which I purchased second hand with 8000 kms wasn’t as bad as this RS. Your usual magic worked and the car is now in better condition than when it was in the selling dealer’s showroom although I believe a lot of the damage to a new car can be caused by poor pre sale preparation.

Good call on waiting to refine the paint. In my experience, any type of correction will make the surface SUPER tacky for PPF, so i do not polish any areas that will be PPF'd. They'll be masked by the film anyway. My process is wash, decon, PPF, then mask and polish. Just be careful with the edges of the newly installed film.

I hope you remembered to double torque. A ton of porsches (idk about gt3rs for sure) require you torque then loosen and then torque to spec again. Those center lock nuts need the first round to align and center proper and then the final torque makes sure it’s fully to oem spec. Enjoy your vids and keep it up

I have the same car as this, with factory made ppf directly from porsche when I bought the car. You can see how usefull it is because I dont see any streaking or lines eith any kind of lights. Problem though is that I have absolutely no idea if I have to do anything to maintain the car, as i dont think that polishing or a ceramic coating is any use on the ppf. So I just hand wash it and then dry it. Do you have any advice please ? Thank you and a very nice video. I love watching 911 detailing videos.

Jim, would hose-ban affect detailing businesses like yours? thanks
@s..a8932 жыл бұрын
It definitely should apply to businesses like this
@SerenaBluee2 жыл бұрын
@@s..a893 Why is that? Hosepipe bans don't apply to golf courses or people wasting water within their homes. The amount of water Jim uses per week in his business will be less than a few people would use in one daily shower or a bath.
@s..a8932 жыл бұрын
@@SerenaBluee I was unaware that they don't apply to golf courses (which they should) but to say that Jim uses less water than some people would in a shower can't be true, I know it's his business and I enjoy watching him but car washes and detailing firms use a lot of water
@sthildas48572 жыл бұрын
Jim has used ONR on the white car...always an option.
@SerenaBluee2 жыл бұрын
@@s..a893 Sorry for the following wall of text. You don't have to read it if you don't want to, I just wanted to put out some of the numbers. In the UK standard water flow rate from a given outlet (tap, shower etc) is 10-15L per minute, so depending on water pressure in your home a 10 minute shower will use between 100 and 150 litres of water. Pressure washers force the water through a small orifice to generate the pressure, which reduces the flow; a Kranzle K7/122 which I believe is the model Jim uses flows a maximum of 7L per minute. From personal measurement snow foaming a car uses about 10L of water, and I spend perhaps 8 minutes rinsing the car in total - 5 minutes rinsing the prewash and 3 to rinse the bucket contact wash. I don't do an initial prerinse, which Jim does and is much harder to quantify in how long it takes. So in total for me to wash my car including door shuts and wheel arches, it's 10L for the snowfoam, 56L to rinse, and about 12L in each bucket totalling 90 litres. I would say there is enough margin there (av. 125L for a shower and av. 90L for a conscientious car wash) to say that cleaning a car and having a 10 minute shower use comparable amounts of water. It's also worth remembering that Jim only cleans one or two cars a week and spends the rest of the time polishing and doing other detailing tasks which have no or very low water consumption, but the wash beforehand is absolutely essential for the rest of his work to take place. Commercial car wash stations are a different matter entirely, and I am not encouraging people to ignore the hosepipe ban and wash their own cars. I haven't cleaned my car since the end of June due to the lack of rain in London, hosepipe ban or not, because I could see this drought coming from a mile away.

@seang35382 жыл бұрын
I don't believe I've heard anyone mention about polishing/refining the panels not being PPF'd until that job is done. I wonder how shops do this? Do they polish the entire car, then send it off to PPF....done and done? OR polish the panels being PPF'd, and finish the rest once PPF is complete. I'm getting a new car PPF'd in the fall, so questions to ask for sure! Thanks Jim, you are a true pro.
