I've never considered what a massive lava flow sounds like. I always thought it would sound more "sticky" and "crackling," but it actually sounds a lot like water at least in large amounts. That was pretty intense. So from what i could see, there was a lake inside of the caldera, then some event happened thst caused an instability, maybe a collapse, or a sudden release of gas pressure forcing more magma volume...and it overwhelmed the walls. Then as it overtook the wall it eroded the sides like a breaking dam allowing more volume to escape.

don't you see that those people are several km away from the lava river? It's called zoom lens. They are on a hill on the other side of the valley.

@@Blackadder75 yes, the telephoto is deceptive but that lava is moving FAST. Several Kilometers just doesn’t seem safe if the volcano explodes, or even spits.

@@AlergicToSnow lava can't flow uphill, just like water it seeks the lowest point. And this type of volcano does not explode. If you don't trust my word, maybe you trust the Icelandic people, they have some experience with the subject 😀. I wish you a lot of viewing pleasure, volcanoes ( that don't harm people) are awesome.

I was standing in the same place the previous day. The telescopic lens is extremely misleading. There was like a half mile of a valley distance away from the cone. Felt pretty safe with the gently errupting lava.

Some parts of this footage, if painted on canvas with oils would rival anything that was created by Jackson Pollock. Best of all these images have been created by mother nature. In particular 3:23 and 3:43 and 4:00 and 4:14 and 4:27 and 5:16 and 5:26 and 8:13 to 8:17 the last two have this spooky face in the developing blob.
