Practically every US University has a merchandise store. It's perfectly normal in the US. Yes there are a large amount of traveling fans. Especially for the prominent teams like these 2. Yes the band is students, and they work to get to that spot from highschool, and they get scholarships to be in the band. They practice hard for years, and it's a big deal to get into a big schools marching band. It's basically the same as a sport... they can lose or gain position in the band based on performance. Thats why they're all so hyped for the game. A lot of them love the school, and were fans of the band growing up going to the games, as well as being fans of the team.

Not only that in some of the larger schools many of the members are actually graduate students and are often band directors at other smaller colleges and high schools before they get in. These were my experiences as a European who went to this game: 8:38 There were quite a lot of Georgia fans around me in the stadium so yes there’s definitely many travelling fans. When Texas played in Michigan earlier this season we pretty much took over the stadium (The largest stadium in the US) 11:58 At the tailgate party I was at there were definitely some people who went just to go tailgate, mainly because tickets for this games were really expensive (I paid $800 for decent seats, bad seats started at like $500) 18:55 Matthew is there at pretty much every game, he was there at the Texas - OU game I went to the week before as well 28:55 Home advantage is huge in college football because of how tactical offensive plays are. The QB has a mic built into his helmet to communicate with the coaches and he will have to remember and communicate all that information with the rest of the team while making sure the play is executed before the clock runs out. That’s why fans are loud when their team is on defense in order to disturb their opponent’s concentration. The stadium gets louder during third downs than anything I’ve ever experienced at European soccer games.

I think the tailgating is unique to each university. Parking can be at a real premium on some campuses so the tailgating is put elsewhere. By my standards that is a very neat and calm venue. Usually it is a lot more rowdy than shown here. One of the things about US college football is that it is very inclusive. If you can't play, you might be in the band, drill squad, flag girls, cheerleaders, etc. Doing it this way allows many to share in the experience.

The biggest advantage for the home team is the crowd’s ability to affect the offense. When they line up to run a play it becomes deafening…often information needs to be conveyed based on what the defense looks like, and nobody can move before the ball is snapped. The crowd is desperately trying to make them commit a procedural mistake…causing them to take a penalty. On the flip side it’s quiet as church when the home team is lined up to snap the ball.

To answer your question about stadiums being used for the world cup, there are no *dedicated* college stadiums being used for the world cup. Hard Rock Stadium in Miami will be used for the world cup and that is were the University of Miami football team plays but it's a shared stadium with the Miami Dolphins NFL team. The main issue is that the fields for American football are narrower than the standard field size for association football and converting them is a pain (this was an issue at the copa america this past summer where a lot of the fields at NFL stadiums weren't converted to the right size and players were constantly overhitting diagonal passes). Also a lot of these schools are in smaller towns that don't have major airports and aren't easy to get to or get around in if you're an international visitor. As a little fun fact though, in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, they played the football matches at the stadium for the school I go to (the University of Georgia, the team Texas lost to here) and I think it would be pretty cool to play world cup matches there but the university made it clear they weren't interested

Most high schools and colleges in the US have fall football teams. That makes collegiate football the main sports draw in the US since around 1900. Baseball was the big story in the summer and football and/or basketball in the fall/winter. The model T made attending college football games possible. Popularity exploded after WWI, the large horseshoe stadiums were built, and the NFL was organized. Many of the older NFL teams played in their local college stadium on Sundays well into the 1960s. Tailgating comes from the college football crowd; people would drive their Model T's in, often over dirt roads from farms spread out all over the county. It would be a whole day affair, so they would show up early and picnic at the car before entering the stadium.

Everyone has 4 years of college sports eligibility, no matter what the age. You only have to be a high school graduate (and of course, you have to make the team!). So the older people never used their eligibility and went to college later than 17 to 21/22 years of age. It is amazing the some of these kids are a few months out of high school and are 17 years old playing with tremendous pressure as both a full-time student and full-time athlete (with your sport, like football, taking up 20 to 40 hours/week during the season with practice, weight and position training exercises, team meetings or schematics, strategy, film watching of the next opponent, etc., and, oh by the way, they have to get passing grades in all of their classes to remain eligible to play their sport.

In case you didn't pick up on it, college football (especially in the south) is almost a religion. The jets that flew over at the beginning of the game were B1 Bombers. Don't worry, it wasn't wasted money. Those bombers were most likely already on a training mission and were diverted to the game for an exercise which practiced their navigation and timing to put them at a target at the exact moment in time that they needed to be there. This is something that the USAF practices regularly. After all, you don't want your bombers to be passing low over a target at the same time the army is laying down artillery or the navy's missile barrage arrives.

at 28:08 It's actually 7 to 6.... a touchdown is only worth 6 pooints. And after that you can kick a field goal to go for one extra point, or you can run another play to attempt to go for 2 points. It's always safer to take the one extra point with a field goal. You only go for 2 points if you're desperate close to the end of the game, and if it makes sense to do it. But the scoreboard actually shows a 6 there, it just looks like a 0 from a distance.

SEC is a division under the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) umbrella. Just like Big10, Big12, PAC-10, etc. There are 4 divisions of each sport the college is in. Division 1 being the best of the best, and Division 4 being an okay college for athletics. Like University of Texas could be in Division 1 in football (premier level of collegiate competition), but be a Division 2 for wrestling. But Boston University could be Division 2 in everything but baseball & hockey. So on, and so forth.

Also, reach out to Office Bloke Daz on seeing if it's OK to react to his tailgating video from Penn State's "White Out" game. Which is Daz, Aiden (Daz's son), Gaynor (Daz's wife) going to that game. They also vlogged being at a (NFL) Giants game, too.

In 2019 the Texas bull tried to kill the Georgia bull dog. It’s on KZbin. They played in the Sugar Bowl. They thought they would let them meet. Check it out.

Around the 19 min mark, they were just running out for warmups. They do their warmups then go back to the locker room, and do another run out for the start of the game, which will be a much bigger deal.

The biggest college event I saw in England was Oxford versus Cambridge in rowing.

The flags around the top of the stadium are probably for the other SEC teams (Texas A&M, Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana State, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina).

Flags on the top of the stadiums are usually the banners of precious championships.
