Yes...the three interior angles of a triangle do add up to 180. I don't remember the exact example I did in this video and I can't watch it at this moment. It is not a bad idea to solve all the angles with either Law of Sine or Cosine just to check your work if you have the time. If one angle is given, you find the second with one of the Laws and just find the 3rd by subtracting from 180...you may be carrying through an error without knowing it to your next answer.

I was once told that a way to tell if a triangle is two or one triangles is if the two shorter sides squared is less than the longest side squared then it has two triangles. For example, in the problem in the video 5.5^2 + 6^2 = 66.25 which is greater than the longest side 7^2 so only one triangle.

Thank you for the videos on the law of sines and the law of cosines I feel like, for the most part, I understand these concepts. The only thing I still somewhat struggle with is being able to tell if there are two solution triangles or only one. For example, in this problem, I would think there would be two solutions since 180 - 79.4 = 105.1 and 180 - 105.1 - 49 = 25.9 Is this not the case for the problem in the video, and if so why not?

question here...in the last example of this video, we're given two sides and one angle of a triangle, however after applying the law of cosine to find the the third side, can't we determine if the opposite angle of the largest side is obtuse or acute from the Pythagoras theorem and then we can straight head on to the law of sine to find the largest angle and then we take the supplementary angle instead by subtraction from 180°? while # 1 below is obvious, I'm not sure if # 2 and 3 will make any sense or if they're already established rules please excuse my slacking for not researching but right off my head I felt that, 1. right triangle, if c^2 = a^2 + b^2 2. if c^2 < a^2 + b^2, then the opposite angle of the largest side would be acute 3. if c^2 > a^2 + b^2, then the opposite angle of the largest side would be obtuse
@profrobbob8 жыл бұрын
If you find it easier to check whether or not the angle is obtuse opposite the largest side, then go ahead:) Or, just don't use the Law of Sine to find the angle opposite the largest angle. You can use Law of Sine to find the measure of any of the other angles or Law of Cosine. I am emphasizing the use of Law of Cosine in this lesson because I am just introducing the Law of Cosine.
