First time I heard Allan Holdsworth I put my guitar down for 2 weeks [an eternity at the time], nearly quit music college, and very nearly took up knitting instead. Glad it wasn't you I heard back then, [although I'd have lots of woolly jumpers now]. Like Allan you're not a shredder, just a phenomenal musician with technique that is so mind-blowing that rather than make me want to quit, actually makes me laugh. [All from a wee Scottish lad]. Thank you kind sir! I never did like the word shredder. I didn’t feel I belonged to that way of playing so thank you again! I had the experience of witnessing Stanley Jordan live 35 years ago at The Queens Hall in Edinburgh. The band was absolutely astonishing. That gig was what triggered me ‘then 20 year old’ into figuring out what I was going to say musically. Up until that point I had been playing 17 years of music written by other musicians. That concert was a shock and a humbling and inspiring experience all rolled into one. It made me ponder what on Earth I was going to do about writing my own music, finding my own sound and techniques. I’ve spent the last 35 years cultivating that and this is the result. We are all students my friend :-)
