Roy is a great example of a guitarist with essentially limitless chops who still offers what is conducive to the song at hand. I'm a guitarist and that synth is really intriguing too - he wields it as a master. The company that makes it should really pay him to promote it.

Wow...someone spotted that! Very obscure GIG reference! The word that cannot be truly translated into English, but the dictionary says 'inhabitant' but my understanding is that the closest we have to this word is 'hobbit'. What do you think?
@lesliesimpson35284 ай бұрын
It caught my eye also. Along with the title of the album. The sense I have is Obyvatel is a good householder. Someone who does their duty in life, and help others - beginning with the family - in order to make a space for inner work.
@mrq62704 ай бұрын
@@AndyEdwardsDrummer I was very surprised to see the reference! I mostly know Mr G through Ouspensky’s writings. He’s had an enormous influence on my life since about 1985. When I read The Fourth Way I felt like I had finally found what I had been looking for! Maybe my “magnetic centre” lead me here. lol. Hobbit? I’ve never heard that one. I remember the meaning as being something like simple-simpleton. A basic workaday man who isn’t out to rock the boat. Someone who just goes along, following the rules and doing what is required of them, without questioning. Now that you mention it, the way that Bilbo was described before going on his adventures does sound rather obyvatelish. But I haven’t read any 4th Way material for many years. And, unfortunately, my memory has often lied to me. Now I’ll have to look it up. So that’s good. I’ll read some Ouspensky again. Btw I’ve enjoyed several of your top ten list type videos. But I confess that I’ve mostly only watched them if I think Hendrix might be on the list.

@smitlag4 ай бұрын
The breath controller really adds another dimension in expression. I know Allan Holdsworth did wonders with it on his SynthAxe. It's oddly not used that much, which is a shame. It's had midi support for a long time. It's a good addition to guitar synths, that while having good sounds, lack a lot of the physical controllers to allow performance modulation. Nice performance from these three musicians.

And in addition, I suspect it's possible to dance to this. (For my brother, whose real name is Twinkletoes, anyway. The rest of our family could join in, in spirit by grunting, drooling, and allowing the spastic flailing to break out of the cage the Master said it must stay in and be good, and just hope we don't break too many things this time round. We get into trouble when we break things, but Twinkletoes never does. Unfair, but life's unfair, so that's a good thing. Cos otherwise it wouldn't be life? Which is bad? Logically speaking ... ) OK, gotta go put my knuckles back down on the floor, so won't be able to type any more poetry no more. And who said shuttup?

Had to look up Obyvatel, yeah nice title fits the music. Just one thing, IMHO emulating wind instruments on a guitar is very clever but a novelty. Again IMHO be better if the guitar sounded like a guitar. Get a sax player if that where Law of Three is at. Edit: Law of Four would be awesome a guitarist playing guitar a sax player playing sax.

Not just a Sax! Almost perfectly replicated Alto, Tenor, Soprano, Clarinet, Trumpet, Duduk, Violin, Synth AND acoustic/elec guitars all in a trio format.

@@LawofThree Sure. Had to keep my comment brief. If the (excellent IMHO) guitarist just stuck to 2 or 3 nuanced voices instead of all that I personally would have enjoyed the music a lot more.. Amazing talent. But I really don't get the whole guitar synth thing. Surely we pick up a guitar coz it sounds like a guitar? If you want to sound like a sax, learn sax. I know it give's versatility of sound, (especially for recording) and it means you don't need an orchestra etc, but I wanna hear guitar from a guitarist! Sorry.
@LawofThree4 ай бұрын
The point is to bring realistic sounding instruments into a TRIO context. My job as a guitarist is not only normal electric guitar 'which there is' but authentic sounding Tenor, Alto, Soprano sax, Trumpet, Clarinet, Violin and Duduk to name a few. Expect Flamenco, Classical, Jazz and world acoustic guitar on future music. This is to entertain an audience of punters not just guitarists. As a guitarist who has played for 52 of my 55 years I can safely say that no matter how good the player is, I am bored of it after the first few numbers, and If I am, you can bet your boots the punters are as well.

@@LawofThree Hi Roy. Many thanks for the reply. I hear what you're saying, and understand completely why you are doing it. In a world of uber-technical guitarists that are all beginning to sound the same, it's great to do something different. I think it works great visually and live to see you get so many authentic non-guitar sounds out of a guitar, and to see a trio produce such a cacophony.Just listening on record might be tricky,, though, as I guess those not in the know will just think it's an actual sax, or a keyboard, but that could also work in your favour as you'll be judged for the quality of your music and improv, and not just as "the fastest guitarist in the world" , which is a good thing. I certainly wasnt saying I didn't like what you were doing, and I'm really looking forward to what you guys come up with next, That said, I maintain (as a guitarist of 40 years...with about a hundreth of your talent!) that you still cant beat the sound of a guitar, and that's what I'm most looking forward to from you. Keep on rockin (and jazzin, and flamencoing, and fusioning, and...oh, you get the picture!)

@@DamianPieroni Cheers bud, you’ll be happy to hear there’s plenty of electric and acoustic guitar on the new album. I’m looking forward to where we go next with Law of Three but rest assured normal guitar will almost certainly be a part of it. Thanks for your reply.

@@LawofThree I find your playing exciting. I played sax for a few years and guitar for many more. There are certain phrasings that fall naturally under your fingers on a sax that few keyboard and guitar players really get. To my ears you do get it.

@@johannhauffman323 Cheers! I learnt a lot studying the old guard. The usual suspects like Miles, Parker and Dizzy a little later Coltrane & Dolphy but it was Art Tatum who really caught my attention. I’m gravitating back to playing more inside again. The one aspect that really stands out that I don’t hear in guitar playing but you do in brass, wind and strings is uninterrupted dynamic control which is the main reason I use the breath controller. The pick or nail kind of spoils it to my ear. I prefer the sound of a line played legato but with the dynamic range and ornamentals of the greats. I’m working this sound now on electric guitar but it’s not found a home yet on a track so next gig it’s making its debut.
