I’m a non traditional undergrad at UT AT Austin right now (senior.) It’s been a crazy last two years. My mother getting sick & passing. 6 months later my father passing. With that being said, my GPA dropped extremely low 2.8. I’m taking a LSAT prep class here in Austin starting Jun-July. Taking the LSAT in August. I’m so scared. And being a parent I really don’t have many options for outside schools. Any suggestions?
@AmarisIsabelDiaz2 жыл бұрын
I'm not going to lie, it is going to be hard to overcome the GPA but I don't think it's impossible! The first thing I would focus on is acing the LSAT - it is a super learnable test and the higher score you get, the easier it will be for the admissions committee to overlook the GPA. After the LSAT, the next important thing to focus on is perfecting your softs (personal statement, diversity statement, LOR, resume). I think you being a non-traditional student with a family is a really good material to include in either your personal and/or diversity statement. Make sure you get good recommendations from professors/professionals who will sing your praise. Lastly, there is an option to write an addendum to supplement your application and I would suggest writing one to explain why your GPA dropped in the last year. This helps the adcomm get a better idea of what was going on in your life at the time.

@AmarisIsabelDiaz3 жыл бұрын
I would say for the best result somewhere between Oct 1st (when the application opens) and Dec 31st of 2022! UT loves taking the full 8 - 10 weeks to get back to applicants with decisions so in order to hear back before deposit deadlines in April I would say the sooner the better!

Do you think your undergrad school matters for law school acceptance?
@AmarisIsabelDiaz Жыл бұрын
I think it might, depending on what law school you're applying. Like, if you're applying to some of the more higher ranked/competitive schools they might take into consideration your undergrad for a couple reasons. A big one might be, if you have a high GPA, they might look at what school you went to in order to determine how competitive the environment was. But I don't think admission committees look at undergrad school solely for the purpose of admit/deny decisions.

I think the median score for the class of 2024 was around 169 but you can double-check here! law.utexas.edu/admissions/quick-facts/

The average LSAT for Texas Law has been above 165 for the last decade (and as the creator mentioned, it was 169 for the most recent class). The national average LSAT score is 152; so, Texas Law is by no means "super east to get into" based on LSAT stats. You should really double-check before spreading misinformation like this!
