He knew exactly what he was doing but he really didn't. He actually secured the Prosecutions case with every cross examinations and ever person he called as a defense witness. It was very clear he wanted to make this all about him. What caught me the most is throughout the trial he said he wanted it to me fair and up until the last time he was removed out of the court room. FAIR!. It sure wasn't fair when he ran over and killed 6 people and injured many many more. He is in fact a very smart person. The manner in which he was able to recall Statutes and legal cases is not something that a person in their right mind struggles with. But he fooled no one. Not even his mother or grandmother. They enabled him with their comments indicating it was mental health and that the government owed him treatment. WOW! Brooks is the classic narcissist.

As a person who is mentally ill, specifically diagnosed with bipolar disorder as of the age of 9, this is no excuse. Mentally ill or not you do not have the right to break the law let alone take lives of other human beings. We do not feel sorry for this sorry excuse of a human being.

It's not an excuse, it's a way to promote understanding. He could be medicated and given therapy and potentially do good things on the inside, but he has simply shown that he cannot be in free society. It's a way to suggest that we either correct or confine individuals where the ripple effects of their crimes are too great. Maybe the awareness of his obvious personality disorder(s) brings awareness. I have one family member with a personality disorder who does and did well in life, and another who I'll never stop advocating for, who does longer and longer terms of incarceration with each of their crimes.

I understand the diagnosis of having a mental health disease since a teenager, I am not in my 50s. And, yes, it is a painful journey, and the system is broken. My heart breaks for ALL who endure these painful conditions. The STIGMA MUST END! I feel very saddened for both the mother & grandmother, as their understanding of mental health diseases, and coming to terms with the vast pain that usually endures a lifetime. Sadly, in certain cultures this has remained a taboo, often leading to SHAME! Therefore, there is no Seeking of professional help. Both of these women can do great & good works especially in communities where more attention is needed. We ALL MUST BE ABLE TO ACCESS AFFORDABLE MENTAL HEALTHCARE NOW; the percentages of people diagnosed and the younger aged children with illnesses is staggering; suicides are increasing. Now, Mr. Brooks….., he for whatever reasons chose not to seek out, or maintain care he does need. He CHOSE to destroy any chances to create a meaningful life; yes, these illnesses may hinder, yet they are absolutely NO EXCUSE TO MAIM, KILL & Mock Society for his actions! He plays a bad acting victim. No true remorse. He cannot be in everyday society.

TY Summer Wheeler as the vast majority of those who suffer with bipolar are a danger to themselves v others. DB was never diagnosed with Bipolar. His diagnoses are as follows > narcissistic sociopath with a heavy dose of 'oppositional defiance DISorder' against Authority FIGures'. DB has no empathy for others as only his needs and WANTS matter to him' and when things go wrong in his life for making BAD decisions, it's always someone or some thing else's fault, never his. He plays the 'victim' card to the 9s and that has worked for him for 40 years until he decided to cross the line from schooled liar and petty thief to gangsta murderer! So, a couple of things I noticed about what he chose to say those 2 hours he rambled. 1. Instead of using his time to address the victims, he spent more time talking about Attny Opper. Because when a narcissist feels that they no longer can control you, they will try to control what people think about you. 2. He isn't as "confused" as he was trying to make himself look. He was extremely careful with every one of his words throughout those 2 hours to never, ever, actually admit to the crimes. In layman's terms, his "apology" was for the pain and hurt this "tragic event" caused. He never once put himself as the cause of their pain. He's hoping for an appeal and if he admitted to the crimes that would hurt him. A true calculated, manipulative, narcissist, to the core!!

He focused on how HE felt disrespected, not on how disrespectful HE was to the families of those who lost loved ones or who had their lives flipped upside down. He doesn’t feel remorse for the victims. He feels remorse only for himself. So while he sits his rest of his days with bars for walls, he can do all the disrespect and eye rolling he wants. Well said. Perceived disrespect is of course deserved and understood. He has a very simple and underdeveloped set of emotional and mental tools at his disposal. Completely reactionary, without giving time and space between his perception and his response to his perception. My POV is that he believes he deserves respect for being mentally unwell, and that the victims showing him 'disrespect' is them not understanding that he feels he is a victim to that mental illness, which is something that takes over him and he has no control over. I understand that to some degree, but he must understand that his body is the emblem that represents their loved ones deaths, even he believes it was not 'him' acting in what he would call his 'right mind'........ The mentally ill one that took over the real 'him' is also him. So if he sees himself as having two distinct personalities, it does not mean they are not both within his realm of of control. Of course they are within his realm of control. Perhaps it felt as if it was not within his realm of control. He must really question who he is, but instead of just getting caught up in himself and how feels, far far far far more, considering how others feel. It's clear that he has an established disregard for the wellbeing of others, in the pursuit of his own wellbeing, without having realised that his wellbeing and the wellbeing of others are deeply interconnected.

When he was berating Erika Patterson on the jail phone call when he was locked up in Milwaukee, he was demanding she put money on his bail. That's it. He was enraged that she gave him no money. So the story he told the detectives about getting money from her was somewhat true. He was trying to bully her into giving him money, that's why he took her foodstamp card. So, in a rage, he drove through the parade because her friends stopped him.

This is my third time watching this trial. Each time I catch more details and find inspiration to have more patience with people who exasperate me. I am SURE Brooks wanted to be in a health facility to be drugged out of his mind for the rest of his life. In jail, he'll have to endure with a clear mind the loneliness, scariness, boredom of a lifetime of being forgotten to everybody he ever knew and to the world. No child of his will even WANT to be in contact with him. His mom didn't even want him living with her, and prefered he live in the car with Erika. Never once was she present in his trial, she didn't lie for him with the cops, honestly, she's finally free of him. He will be miserable because he will never control anybody ever again, and he will forever have to follow orders even though "he is a grown man and nobody tells him what to do." Justice was done.

It's fascinating to watch start to finish, & to see Brooks catch on & to use knowledge he learned from the judge or prosecutors on previous days. Finally, it's infuriating to hear his final tirade at sentencing, where he preaches pseudochristianity, he outs the other 3 mothers of his kids by name knowing he's being broadcast worldwide, he tells the victims it's going to take time to heal, and rants about DA Sue Opper while attemting to triangulate by saying he respects Atty's Winchow & Baisy. In DB's own words, "it's mind-boggling"!

The victims of this senseless tragedy are beautiful people who saw something I don’t even want to start trying to imagine, and still came together to help each other. I pray that every single one of them gets the healing and closure they need. I’ve never met any of these people, but their families and their own statements make me wish I did. May their community come back stronger together.❤ For Dawn Woods and Mary Edwards. You keep lying to yourselves and your community of him being mentally ill. If it makes you feel better living in a lie, so be it. But just so you know, your son/grandson was nothing short of what nightmares are made of. He is cold, controlled, an abuser, a bully, a terrorist. He put many lives in danger, and he seized many hearts with fear. That is not a mental disease or illness. I disagree! The true inspiration, the woman who people look to as a “hero” is DA Sue Opper. She worked diligently for a year preparing for this Trial. She went to the scene that fateful day a year ago. She assisted and supported almost 100 victims and their families. DA Opper did all of this while leading a team of Attorneys at a busy DA’s Office. Moreover, she sat in that courtroom during Brooks awful behavior and and antics for weeks, never losing site of the the verdict. DA Opper is the true hero here!

I just get a laugh that his Mama, Granny, and him literally thought they could convince Judge Dorow to hospitalize him. That shows they have no understanding of the laws that surround mental illness. For one, Judge Dorow didn’t have the means to commit him to a mental institution because it was not one of the options available…plus DB is not incompetent and I believe in order to sentence someone to a treatment facility you need a court order and you have to be found incompetent. We must also protect the mentally fragile folks from danger. They are very vulnerable, and easily manipulated. DB is more a danger to others as opposed to himself. He belongs in prison. That’s the only way to keep society safe from him. But, as DB says, he’s “made peace with God!!” (Which is a lie…he’s using God to manipulate people) But yeah…he’s made peace. And by her OWN words, she KNEW he could be dangerously violent! 🤦🏾‍♀️🤬 This reminds me so much of how the kids at Parkland kept telling the school that Nicholas Cruz was dangerous, yet he was able to buy a gun. They told their parents, they told teachers, but because of "No Child Left Behind", he was able to murder 17, and traumatize countless more. Often (not always of course, but often) people around a potential mass murderer DO have an intrinsic _instinct_ that this person is dangerous. THAT'S when that person needs to be stopped. . . they SHOULDN'T be bailed out, they SHOULDN'T be able to buy a gun and lots of ammo. A friend of mine was SA'd in third grade by the exact same boys who the kids all KNEW were a danger, but the school refused to expel them for bringing weapons, or for beating up the other kids, or for basically terrorizing the whole school because of this insane belief that it would be unfair to kick them out. Until it was too late for my sweet friend, and they SA'd her. It basically ruined her life, which she tried to end as a child. And even now, as an adult, she suffers from PTSD and depression and is too traumatized to even work anywhere where she has to be around people she doesn't know. "That doesn't help" does not mean he is owning up to anything, It's "look at the poor me" strategy. He will forever hate the people he killed, for putting him in this predicament-that's how sick these people are.

Lecturing them on forgiveness & quoting Scripture. How much more insensitive can he get! Rebutting the victim comments that hurt his little feelings. Grrrrrrr

3:35:27 the look on Darrell’s face when he hears the judge say “mental health” had nothing to do with why Darrell killed these people. For the first time in his life he will be held accountability. And for that he literally looked confused

Yes. At first I think he thought she was going to make his wish come true. He was very confused. For about two mins. What a slimebag.

I know right, I honestly think that he thought he he and "mom" had him snowed, even though I do believe his mom and grandma wanted so badly for him to be mentally ill! Although I think Mom and even Grandma is kinda to blame by not teaching him "No", I feel bad for Mom and Grandma...maybe now they will wake up yo whom he really is. Especially since the judge gave those sentencing remarks
