@whitway125 ай бұрын
@@Sallyduhh you didn’t ask me, but I’ll interject with a take - many people considered her approach to be ‘soft’ or that she ‘let him control the court’. What she did from the very beginning was very calculated and controlled. She had a massive responsibility and burden to make sure that there was no possible way that he could win an appeal and get a second trial. While it’s not always easy to win an appeal, especially in a case like this, because he was representing himself, she had to be intricately careful to honour all of his constitutional rights (the sovereign citizen nonsense has no bearing in law) but his actual rights. Any misstep on her part, any outburst, any demonstration of negatively charged emotion in his direction could have given him an opportunity to eke out an appeal win. Furthermore, based on the fact that he was representing himself, holding him in direct contempt would have delayed the trial even further. No judge will ever get it perfect, we certainly hope that they do but judges are still human, and she demonstrated incredible control, patience, compassion and non bias. People will always find something to pick apart, often people who have no understanding of how the legal system works, simply because they think highly enough of themselves that they could somehow do a better job. I, as do many others, believe this was the best and only way to handle this unique scenario, with an extreme narcissist and ‘sovereign citizen’ who had committed such an obviously evidenced number of crimes. Hope that helps!
@Sallyduhh4 ай бұрын
@@whitway12 Thank you!! I agree with you, I believe her “softness” was simply her trying to insure he in NO way could ever appeal her and the jury’s decision, I’ve watched tons of this trial and have been stunned time and time again by her persistent professionalism, especially compared to how many other judges might’ve handled a case like this, with the emotional aspect.

@erikm8372 Жыл бұрын
I do agree, but clearly there was a lack of professionalism in the prior judges! Clearly. And sadly, with the example of domestic violence cases, we see so often that justice is not served, if the complaint is even heard or acknowledged at all. That’s what the issue was here early on. Violent or unpredictable offenders are often allowed to go free, or the innocent are painted as the instigators and end up dead, etc. So clearly, there was a lack somewhere early on, yes. But that doesn’t negate the professionalism and complete perfection (in my eyes) Jennifer Dorow has shown in this case. I’m amazed. I’d imagine that she’s also frustrated at the lack of the past; why wasn’t he dealt with earlier… That’s why she initially brings up past findings, mental health specialists, etc. she wanted to explain HOW she came to the sentencing, how we got to this point, even though we all knew what it would be. She was speaking out of frustration due to the past judges and prosecutors as well.

I’ve been rewatching this case like crazy. I think it’s because of the dynamic between Brooks and Judge Dorow. Brooks is the kind of person that good people hope and pray to never cross paths with or god forbid, have them enter your life in some way. He’s so self righteous, narcissistic, selfish and lacks self awareness to a serious degree. But Judge Dorow read him like the back of her hand. She knew exactly how she needed to work him so that there would be NOTHING he could hold against her in an appeal. She always had the ace in her hand, and he was always the fool. Watching his true colors through a screen is enraging enough. I can’t imagine being the Judge who had to deal with him in real life. So, after binging on the absurdity of Darrell Brooks, this video hits just right. JUSTICE. The Judge was waiting for this moment, and she owned it. Her kindness is a weakness to people like Darell and unfortunately, she allowed him to control her courtroom. This passed on unnecessary pain, anger, and frustration to the victims, which all could have been avoided had she had a little more backbone. She is a fair judge I do believe, because she took everything into consideration. Because of this, she is seen as a hero. However, the defense should have requested an evaluation of Me. Brooks. This was necessary in this case. I am not saying that he was justified in anyway in what happen. My heart goes out to the victims and their loved ones. But how can the case be shut when all the mental health evaluations came from physicians hired by the plaintiff? Wouldn't it had been better if evaluations from both sides agreed on his mental health.

This judge saw right through his feeble attempts to blame mental illness for his crime and called him out on it while telling a personal story about someone she presided over who was truly mentally ill and she describes how heart breaking that case was because this person murdered someone close to them while they were in a psychotic delusion and after they came out of that delusion they were incredibly sad and devastated that they did what they did.
